Is Losing Strength After 40 Natural?

There are many falsehoods that have developed over the years regarding aging and strength. As someone who has worked out all my life they have always seemed liked excuses to me, but they are things I hear all the time. Here are a few of the "LIES", let's call them what they are, I'd like to put to rest.
LIE#1: You naturally put on weight as you get older... WRONG!
Stop blaming those expanding love handles on getting older! In fact, of any other challenge, this is the simplest to combat. There are four factors which contribute to middle age weight gain: slowing metabolism, lower testosterone, poor diet and lack of exercise. Look at that list. Two of the four factors are completely within our control. It's time to stop blaming those expanding love handles on getting older. It's just an excuse. All you need to do is make the right food choices and take care with what you eat. That tiny change alone will stop the onset of weight gain.
But when it comes to strength, here's another myth to bust...
LIE #2: As you get older, you naturally get weaker... WRONG!
I'll show how wrong this lie is. Research from the University of Oklahoma found that over an eight-week period a group of middle-aged guys (35-50) succeeded losing body fat and building muscle. But that's not all. Compared with a group of college-aged guys over the same period, the older guys lost MORE body fat and gained MORE muscle. So, let me say this again: None of this is inevitable. Yes, you're susceptible... but it doesn't have to be your future. Getting older isn't the problem. (And any guy who blames age for their performance is making excuses.)
You don't have to accept these lies.
LIE #3: As you age, you naturally lose energy... WRONG!
There's one everyday reality that hits you harder than anything else: always feeling tired. To feel that overwhelming exhaustion every day is, well... exhausting. You wake up tired. Yawn your way through the work day. And then spend the evening slouched on the sofa unable to keep your eyes open.
And you pay the price.
You spend less quality time with your wife. Less time with your kids. Every activity is a struggle. Before you thought nothing of heading out to do any number of outdoor activities... now, you're lucky if you make it through the evening. Your energy levels start on a downward spiral when your lack of energy reduces your activity level. It becomes a vicious cycle.
But here's the thing about what I call the Energy Spiral. It goes up as well as down. Find the energy and get back into daily activity and the spiral turns upwards. More energy = even more energy. Reinvigorating your body to release enough energy to keep increasing energy levels needs to be a major part of any program.
LIE #4: Injuries are just going to happen as you get older... WRONG!
Remember what you were like in your 20s? Knocking around the gym. Lifting big. Huge gains every week. Eating whatever you wanted with no side-effects. And then what happened when you hit your 30s? Change happens. A nag turns into an ache. The gains take a little bit longer. The fat clings a little harder to your body than it used to. The realization hits: we're not invincible. Progress is painful. What worked for you as a 20-year-old kid doesn't work for you now.
It's perfectly natural. Your body changes. But NONE of the programs reflect that change. They expect you to try nailing it like you did in your youth... and when you don't get results, frustration sets in. You try working out harder. And for longer. Yet the results stall. Your energy starts dropping and soon you're exhausted, frustrated or, even worse, injured. It doesn't have to be that way. With the right program you can avoid injuries!
It's worse than hitting a plateau. And it's not just a case of changing it up or trying something different. The next stage is all about motivation...
LIE #5: Motivation is much harder to come by as we age... WRONG!
Of course, it's not your fault. When you hit your 30s, life gets in the way. You mature. Your priorities change. Your days fill up with the everyday rigor of spending time on your career. You dedicate your free time on evenings and weekends to your family. Hanging out in the gym or sweating it out for hours on end stop having the same appeal. Your motivation wanes. Your diet slips. Life gets in the way. Your priorities may have changed... but your body still needs attention
As you can see, NONE of these issues are physiological.
Our challenges are not about our body. They are around what we choose to do with our body. These are the same challenges for every guy, like you and me. You may be experiencing one or more of these right now... you may be going through all three. By challenging and resolving each of these issues, you can turn back the clock. Deterioration and decay doesn't have to be your reality.
I've found a program that works to help you overcome these lies we've all been told. Known as 40 Strong I think if you'll give it a try, you're going to be achieving the kind of results you did in your 20's.
40 Strong is about you doing what you love to do when it comes to activity. This program is about choosing different ways to be physically active. Liking what you're doing for exercise is the key to longevity and long-term results.
Because if you truly like something, it will be very hard to stop doing it.
I always like going back to children when it comes to explaining exercise and being active. Most of the children in this world have one thing in common; they like to play. Playing is exercise. Kids run, jump, twist, climb and move their bodies with tremendous power, strength and agility. As we age, we lose that ability. Not because we got older, but because we stopped moving like that every day and this point is missed by many experts in the field of strength and health. This program is about adding recess back into your life and having that time everyday where you get to play in different ways. In doing that you will regain energy, muscle, mobility, confidence and your life will be forever changed.

5 Most Common Health Concerns For Seniors

Getting older is inevitable, but a healthy lifestyle can ensure that you make the most of your golden days. It is rightly said that what you do in your 20s affects your 50s, therefore you must take deliberate steps towards a healthy lifestyle. However, knowing the possible chronic illnesses that attack during the golden years, you can consciously stave off the illness as you age.
Here are the five most common health concerns for seniors:
1. Arthritis:
It is one of the most common problems among seniors. A poor and inactive lifestyle could lead to arthritis. Symptoms such as knee pain, ankle pain, and joints pain could be a sign that you are suffering from arthritis. Do not avoid the symptoms. Seeking medical advice at an early stage could help you keep arthritis and arthritis pain relief products at bay. Doing exercise could be difficult for seniors, but a little exercise is essential to keep your bones and joints healthy and to ensure that the knee pain doesn't deter you from enjoying your golden days.
2. Cancer:
Cancer is one of the most dreaded diseases that affect not only seniors, but also people from other age groups. It is the second most cause of death amongst people of over 65 years with 413,885 deaths in 2014, reveals a survey. The CDC reports that 21% of women and 28% of men of over 65 years are living with Cancer.
If detected early, cancer is curable. However, there is no sure shot way of curing cancer. There are ways to reduce the suffering and the side effects of the medicines.
Joint pains, knee pain, sore throat, and weakness are few of the many side effects of the medicines that cure cancer.
3. Alzheimer's:
One in nine people of age 65 and above suffers from Alzheimer's, which is nearly 11%, reveals the Alzheimer's Association. This disease can influence the well-being of the sufferer and their family too. It is important to deal with it patiently, be open about it, and seek medical assistance. Because this disease is related to brain and memory, the family members must take special care about the safety of the patient.
4. Osteoporosis:
Osteoporosis is a condition in which bones become weak and brittle. Although treatment can help, the condition cannot be completely cured. Therefore, is very important to identify Osteoporosis at an early stage and treat it immediately. Many people have no symptoms of Osteoporosis until they have a bone fracture. Chronic knee pain could be a sign that your bones need assistance. One must use knee brace, and ankle brace to prevent falling and collapsing.
5. Falls:
As the body ages, the strength of the body and the health of the bones and joints begin to deplete. Because of which, people become prone to falling. Every year nearly 2.5 million people of over 65 years are taken to the hospital because of falling, states CDC. The recovery process also slows down as we age, therefore such falls could lead to partial or complete immobility. It is important to treat early signs such as knee pain, trembling legs, weak joints immediately. Eating things that are rich in calcium and vitamins could help in keeping the joints and knees healthy. This would prevent knee pain and falls.
Older people are advised to wear knee braces, ankle braces, and walk with a supporter to prevent mishaps & they must follow proper diet by eating things that are rich in calcium and vitamins could help in keeping the joints and knees healthy. Visit - https://www.seniority.in/arthritis.html

Get A Stronger Grip

In my work as a personal trainer, I am constantly trying to help people strengthen their weakest link. For bodybuilders this is always a lagging body part. For people who are primary interested in getting stronger--in simply lifting more weight in more lifts--I can almost always help them increase their overall strength by helping them get a stronger grip.
For strength trainees, the grip is often the equivalent of the weakest body part for the physique competitors. Here's why: it often gets neglected. How many times have you seen a man with a giant upper body and skinny little legs? Well, he has been neglecting to work on his legs. Therefore, his legs hinder his goal of overall physique development. He can never look any better than his legs do in a competition.
With someone trying to develop brute strength, the hands are often the neglected part of the equation. I have one client who wants to be able to dead lift 500 pounds. What is ironic is that his back and legs are already strong enough to lift that much weight--he just can't hold onto it. The barbell falls out of his hands because his grip is not strong enough.
It doesn't necessarily act as a hindrance simply to those wanting to increase their max strength. If you want to be able to lift more total volume during a session, then hand fatigue in a movement like a dumbbell row can also be your limiting factor.
Strong hands are useful. That's the core of this article. Whether you're an athlete, a laborer, or you just want to be as healthy as possible, there is no downside to developing hand strength. Here are a couple of exercises to get you started:
The plate curl
This is just a normal bicep curl, but holding a weight plate instead of a dumbbell or barbell. Pinch a 10-25 lb plate between the thumb and the four fingertips. Now curl the weight approximately to chin level without letting the wrist bend.
grippers
I'm not talking about the little plastic grippers you can buy at Wal Mart. I'm talking about heavy duty torsion grippers like the Captains of Crush grippers from Iron https://ezinearticles.com/?Get-A-Stronger-Grip&id=5056623mind, or David Horne's Vulcan grip tools.
Heavy grippers look like others that you have seen, but they have hundreds of pounds of resistance, not dozens. Hence, they can't be worked for high reps or frequent sessions.
summary
It is simple--just use your hands more and focus on strength. Can you do more weight in a hand exercise than you could last week. Then you are stronger. Can you do more reps than you used to be able to? Then you are stronger.
Repeat until strong, then keep going. You won't be sorry.
When I'm not trying to get a stronger grip you can find me strength training in my garage or working with others. I'm a passionate amateur with 10 years of experience. Lift heavy and be happy!

How To Get Ready To Grow Old

Growing old is for everyone - yep, even you - so it could be a good idea to prepare for that time. You think you're always going to be as young as you are now, but it doesn't work that way. While 70 might seem a long way off, you'll get there soon and have no idea where the time went. Here's what you can do to ready yourself.
  1. It's all about attitude: never think of yourself as old. As George Burns said, 'You can't help getting older, but you don't have to get old'.
  2. Then there's looking after yourself: you only have one body. A great deal of your experience of ageing 'gracefully' will revolve around the state of your health - physical, mental, spiritual. Make sure you're prepared by:
  • Maintaining fitness - gym(ing), lifting weights, walking, keeping your legs strong by doing squats.
  • Strengthening your core muscles so you'll avoid falling over and breaking anything - yoga is great.
  • Quitting smoking.
  • Stopping sun worshipping and always wearing sunblock.
  • Encouraging friendships.
  • Avoiding eating junk food. You be the one who decides what goes into your mouth.
  • Getting to a good weight for you and staying there. Overweight oldies experience all sorts of extra inconveniences.
  • Taking care of your mind - exposing yourself to high-quality things and meditating daily.
  • Looking on life as lightheartedly as you can. Smiling a lot! Living the worst-case-scenario life by asking yourself when you're feeling 'low', will this matter in five months or five years?
  • Stopping being a worrywart. As Mark Twain said, 'I've had a lot of worries in my life, most of which never happened'.
  • Using what's available to improve the quality of your life - sight and hearing tests, regular dental checkups, financial planning, etc.
While you've probably heard the saying, 'Old age sucks', but by preparing now, you'll find that it doesn't suck nearly as much as you thought it would.

All You Need To Know About Obesity

Do you know that 'zero size' figure is a completely new phenomenon or trend that we are witnessing in the 21st century?
With the rise of social networking platforms, now every person gets the opportunity to share their pictures online for viewers to see. This has also made people more conscious about their figure or physique.
However, millions of people around the world suffer from obesity problem, which makes them look fat and unhealthy. Today, we will try to understand the basics of obesity, which may help us to fight it effectively.
What Is Obesity?
Many people often get offended when their doctors call them 'obese'. They need to understand that obesity is just a medical term used to describe your physical weight.
Obesity directly means having excess fat, so obese means a person with too much fat in his/her body. Generally, this is based on BMI (Body Mass Index), which can be calculated by using a BMI calculator. In this type of calculation, your weight and height are taken into account to find the results.
For example, if a person has his/her BMI from 25 to 29.9, then he/she is overweight, but won't be considered as obese. However, if someone has a BMI that's more 30, then he/she will be seen as an obese person.
How Your Health Is Affected By Obesity
You'll be surprised to know that obesity might be the reason behind some of your health conditions, such as,
• High cholesterol
• Type 2 diabetes
• Gallstones
• Heart disease and stroke
• High BP (blood pressure)
• Joint problems due to excess weight
• Sleep apnea
• Breathing problems
A Few Changes Can Make A Significant Difference
Fortunately you can find a way to get into shape. Also, shedding some weight can have a major effect to your wellbeing and how you feel. Even by losing a few extra kilograms, you can notice remarkable changes in your health condition and start feeling a lot healthier than before.
In the beginning, you can make a target to lose around 1 to 2 kilograms every 7-10 days. Overweight individuals should make a real effort to lose 5% to 10% of their excess weight within the first 6 months of their weight reducing campaign.
Are you prepared to change your life by reducing the excess kilograms from your body? Are you looking forward to lead a healthier life with a fitter body? If yes, then consult your doctor, gym trainer, and other experts to help and guide you to fight your obesity problem and achieve a healthy and fit body.
Have trust in yourself! Believe your instincts! Remember, with the right & positive attitude you can achieve anything and overcome any obstacle!

Exercise Does Lower Blood Pressure!

Can you "walk off" your high blood pressure with an investment of just two hours a week? Read the results of this exciting new study...
HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE. If your numbers aren't at 140/90 or below, you've got it. What do you get with it? A massively increased risk of having stroke - high blood pressure is the #1 cause of that disabling condition - and heart disease.
The good news is that many studies have shown that a combination of exercise, stress reduction and a change in dietary habits can reduce that pressure as well as better than those drugs.
Now there's even better news. A ground-breaking new study offers conclusive proof that just engaging in a regular exercise programme can drop your numbers enough to pretty much make those drugs unnecessary.
Got 2 Hours a Week?
That's all it took. The researchers started out with 27 overweight, out-of-shape men with mild hypertension, weaned them off any blood-pressure medications they were taking and broke them into two groups.
One group did the real exercise: a half-hour of "fast walking," jogging and/or stationary cycling four times a week at 65 to 80 per cent of their maximum heart rate.
The men in the other group did a fake exercise. They did "slow calisthenics and stretching" for an equal amount of time, but their heart rate stayed below 60 per cent of the maximum.
Heart rate was carefully monitored in both groups of men so that the researchers could be certain the real exercisers were keeping theirs above 65 per cent and those doing the fake workout stayed below 60 per cent. (If they moved out of those ranges, an alarm sounded!) This "proof of exercise intensity" makes this study fairly unique.
And the Results?
At the end of 6 weeks, you could see a significant difference in the two groups. The men doing the real exercise had lowered their diastolic reading (the bottom one) by an average of more than 6 points.
At the end of 10 weeks, it was down almost 10 points; from an average of 94.8 to an average of 85.2. Those doing the fake workout saw their diastolic reading go up: from 93.7 to 94.4.
Systolic, the top reading, went down 6 points in the real exercisers from an average of 136.6 to 130.2. In the fake exercisers, it went up from 134.9 to 135.8.
Or, as the researchers put it, 9 out of 10 men in the real exercise group got their diastolic reading down to less than the magic 90. All of the men doing the fake exercises were 90 or higher.
As the researchers explain, previous studies about exercise's effects on blood pressure have come up with all kinds of results. But this one has several edges.
The researchers monitored the men's exercise levels like never before and insisted that they make no changes in their diet. They kept the weight and fat levels the same in both groups Why? Because some people had felt that such "confounding variables" as diet and weight loss were the cause of any drops in BP in earlier studies, and not the exercise itself.
The researchers might also be the first in medical history to include a group that did placebo exercises for comparison.
The result is powerful evidence that many men can literally "walk off" their high blood pressure with an exercise investment of two hours a week.

Type 2 Diabetes - Take Control: It's Your Life

You may be in a tough situation. You are overweight, have high blood pressure, and high blood cholesterol readings and based on what your doctor has told you; you have every reason to panic. How could you have waited so long to do something about these issues?
You may have Type 2 diabetes. You should have visited the doctor when you first realized something was not right. You were taking more trips to the bathroom, or you felt tingling in your feet and fingers. Now, who knows what sort of damage has occurred. You fear for your well-being. These are just two scenarios of an endless number that afflict individuals all around the world. Are they fixable? Many are. That is the only fact that matters at this point. However, nobody can fix it but the individual.
Only you can right your wrongs. Only you can do what is necessary to get your health back on track. Perhaps you haven't thought about someone else fixing your problems for you. Sure, it would be great, but it is far from a realistic expectation. What you may be guilty of, however, is being a bystander to your health - and not intervening while your health issues unfolded.
The past is no more. The future is coming. What will you do about it? It is your life to live, and the decisions are yours to make. The best others can do is give you advice. They can attempt to boost your spirits. However, know any motivation others provide is fleeting. The motivation driving you forward must be internal; it must be yours.
If you lack the motivation to get started or to keep going, ask yourself what you stand to lose. Go over one thing at a time...
  • if your cardiovascular health is at risk, there is much concern in this area as it is. Are you comfortable with the feeling you could have a fatal heart attack without warning? How about a stroke? It is a rhetorical question, but your degree of fear will vary. Is it enough to get you to act to improve your health and reduce your risk of severe complications?
  • if you have Type 2 diabetes, many, many problems could arise, many of which are fatal.
By going over the consequences, you should find the motivation you need.
Moreover, remember: it is your life. You only have one to live. Don't wait until a terrible moment to be reminded of this fact.
Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. By making easy changes to your daily routine, its possible to protect your heart, kidneys, eyes and limbs from the damage often caused by diabetes, and eliminate some of the complications you may already experience.
For nearly 25 years Beverleigh Piepers has searched for and found a number of secrets to help you build a healthy body. Go to http://DrugFreeType2Diabetes.com to learn about some of those secrets.
The answer isn't in the endless volumes of available information but in yourself.

Type 2 Diabetes and Weight Loss - Avoid Extreme Diets at All Costs

Just because something is hard to do and is more involved, does not mean it is necessarily more fruitful. For example, a 10-kilometer run will burn significantly more calories than running for half the distance. But why run 10 kilometers when you could do two 5-kilometer runs instead? It is much better to fit two 5km runs in your weekly schedule than it is to aim for a herculean effort on Sundays with a 10k jog. Not to mention there are long-term issues with long distance running, but that is beside the point.
The same applies to diet and nutrition. Just because something is harder to achieve - not to mention you must be very careful with what you do when it comes to your diet, there are many ideas that could have dangerous results. You need to steer clear of extreme diets.
Let us consider an individual Matthew, who wants to lose weight more than everything else. Matt is a 45-year-old diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. His doctor has told him for years his weight is an issue. But the best he has been able to do is make a little progress in the right direction, before stalling, and inevitably returning to old ways.
Matthew is sick of calling himself fat and feeling out of shape. He knows he deserves much better. It is a delicate period in his life and the cardiovascular risks are becoming real. The last thing he needs is to suffer the same fate as someone close to him, who is also dealing with Type 2 diabetes. He has tried what his doctor advised but it just has not worked for him. He needs to try something new...
  • perhaps he will search and stumble with an online fad or crash diet.
  • a friend may tell him about a crash diet, claiming it worked for them.
No matter what, he needs to be careful because some diets will do more harm than good. Such is the case with a diet that proposes...
  • severe caloric restrictions,
  • complete avoidance of carbohydrates, or
  • too much of one food such as protein.
The first on the list especially - it has become quite popular nowadays to attempt extremely low-calorie diets for a "temporary" period. Temporary in this sense should be a matter of a day or two. There is no physiological issue with going a short period with minimal eating. Your body finds a way to cope. But when you go several days or weeks, consuming an intake of just over 1000 calories or even less - we are talking about a serious concern. Add diet pills to the equation, and we have a more significant problem.
Not only are these diets extreme, but so are the repercussions. The consequences are rarely talked about, while the potential benefits get all the attention. Even if you can apply your willpower to achieve these feats, it does not mean you should.
But why not apply the same motivation for something less extreme? Something that is proven to work? A balanced diet is all you need to follow. The progress may be slower, true. But the benefits are guaranteed and come without a price.
Although managing your disease can be very challenging, Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. You can make simple changes to your daily routine and lower both your weight and your blood sugar levels. Hang in there, the longer you do it, the easier it gets.
For nearly 25 years Beverleigh Piepers has searched for and found a number of secrets to help you build a healthy body. Go to http://DrugFreeType2Diabetes.com to learn about some of those secrets.
The answer isn't in the endless volumes of available information but in yourself.

Why You Should Walk

Walking is a program that everyone does every day for their health, fitness and it is a great exercise program. Individuals walk around the house, walk to get the mail, to the local shop to buy some needed goods, or if you are active you will mow the lawn.
These are some activities that will improve your health:
1) Endurance, or aerobic, activities increase your breathing, heart rate, muscle and joints. Brisk walking or jogging, dancing, swimming, and biking are examples.
2) Strength exercises make your muscles stronger. Lifting light weights 1 to 4 pounds and lifting them 3 to 5 times or using a resistance band that can build up your strength.
3) Balance exercises help prevent falls
4) Flexibility exercises stretch your muscles and can help you stay limber.
The above list is from The NIH: National Institute on Aging.
Walking will relieve arthritis discomfort as well as it has many more benefits; the above are great programs for individuals who are recovering from many health conditions, and need an activity. These are great programs for you to do as an exercise, if you are a diabetic
or have any disabling condition and you may need to do a physical activity this is a great program for you.
