Obesity And Overweight: Five Diseases And Health Conditions
A health care professional can readily tell if you are obese, overweight, or healthy by simply measuring your Body Mass Index, or BMI, in short. It effectively determines your weight in proportion to your height and the further it goes outside the scope of the standard range, the greater your odds are of developing a host of critical health issues from obesity and overweight.
Accomplishing and sustaining a healthy weight is something that cannot be achieved overnight and might turn out to be a challenging task for obese and overweight individuals in the long-term. Ensuring a healthy weight through appropriate means or at least preventing yourself from gaining more weight can help overweight people reduce the likelihood of developing specific medical conditions.
Obesity is on the verge of becoming a national epidemic in the USA and is associated with several chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, hyperlipidemia, cancer, and cardiovascular disease. The grave medical condition is responsible for an astounding 18% mortality rate in the age group of 40 to 85 among American population, as observed by a health research study carried out in 2013, questioning the deeply-rooted, prevailing notion of the medical and scientific community that a mere 5 in every 100 deaths in the country are related to obesity. The new finding essentially suggests that it is as fatal as cigarette smoking, when it comes to the discussion of public health hazards, as the particular way of nicotine consumption can be linked to 20 in every 100 deaths in the USA and is acknowledged as the major preventable cause of mortality in the country.
Almost 2 in every 5 American adults were diagnosed with obesity in 2015-16, which is a significant increase from 34% in 2007-08, and its impact became more profound with a steep increase from 5.7% to 7.7% during that time. While not a single state reported an obesity rate of over 15% in 1985, as many as 5 of them registered rates higher than 35% for the year 2016.
Obesity and overweight are often associated with emotional health issues like depression. People who are either obese or overweight may also experience weight bias as well as face the stigma of the medical care services providers and others, which, in turn, can result in guilt, feeling of rejection, or shame, further worsening the prevailing problems concerning one's mental well-being.
The major diseases and health complications caused by obesity and overweight are illustrated below in brief.
I. TYPE 2 DIABETES
When the blood glucose concentration becomes abnormally high on a permanent basis, the particular medical condition is termed as type 2 diabetes. About 4 in every 5 individuals with the said form of diabetes are known to be either obese or overweight. High blood sugar levels can manifest a large number of medical conditions, such as stroke, heart conditions, eye issues, neuropathic damage, eye problems, and other health issues.
Allowing yourself to engage in periodic physical activities and reducing 5% to 7% of your weight may prevent or postpone type 2 diabetes onset in the event you belong to the risk group for the particular disease.

II. HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
When the blood passes through the blood vessels in your body with significantly more force, the particular medical condition is known as hypertension, or more commonly, high blood pressure. It can cause an alarmingly great level of damage to your blood vessels, strain your heart, and help increase the odds of stroke, kidney disease, heart attack, and even death.

It can cause an alarmingly great level of damage to your blood vessels, strain your heart, and help increase the odds of stroke, kidney disease, heart attack, and even death.
III. HEART DISEASE
The umbrella term heart disease is routinely used to indicate a wide and diverse gamut of medical conditions that can affect the overall well-being of the organ. If you are diagnosed with heart disease, you are at a greater risk of having heart failure, sudden cardiac death, angina, heart attack, or a heart rhythm that is not considered normal. Elevated fat levels in your bloodstream, high blood sugar concentrations, and high blood pressure may increase the odds of heart disease. Blood lipids or blood fats necessarily refer to triglycerides, High-Density Lipoprotein or HDL cholesterol, and Low-Density lipoprotein or LDL cholesterol. Reducing 5% to 10% of your body mass is likely to help you mitigate the risks of developing heart disease and can help improve your blood flow, cholesterol levels, and blood pressure.

IV. STROKE
If there is a blockage or an incidence of blood vessel rupture in your neck or brain, it causes the blood supply in your brain to restrain all on a sudden, and the particular medical condition is known as stroke. A stroke can cause reversible or irreversible damage to your brain, resulting in partial or complete paralysis and thus, making you incapable of speaking or initiating body movements. To suffice, hypertension is recognized as being the vital cause of strokes.

V. SLEEP APNEA
Sleep apnea is a medical condition when an individual does not breathe frequently and is pretty much common in a large number of people around the globe. One may also cease breathing altogether for small intervals. If the said sleeping disorder continues to remain undiagnosed and untreated, it may increase the odds of other critical health issues, such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Great Benefits of Kettlebell Training
A Kettlebell is a piece of exercise equipment that strongly resembles a cannonball with a handle attached to it. These items are generally made from cast iron or cast steel. They were developed back in the 1700s in Russia. They have been used by athletes to increase their strength and they were even used by the Soviet army in their physical training for their troops.
Some Kettlebells are actually bags filled with sand instead of the cast iron cannonballs, but even the bags are uniquely shaped so they provide an unstable force. These items are often used in swinging motions and they provide excellent cardiovascular responses and they provide good strength training without the person having to repeat one exercise for several repetitions over a long period of time.
• Provides as much, if not more, cardio exercise as a treadmill does
• Can help you create functional strength in muscles without your having to do monotonous isolated repetitions
• Creates flexibility without requiring long, tedious poses
• It is a combination of strength training and cardio training
• You do not need a lot of expensive equipment to do the exercises
• Anyone, of any shape, size, or age can do some type of Kettlebell exercises
• The exercises are not boring because there is such a variety of things you can do
• This is the perfect exercise for people who have a limited amount of time to devote to their daily exercise regimen
• Kettlebell exercises helps to create a denser muscle mass and muscle burns more calories so it eliminates fat stores in the body at a higher rate than if you were simply engaging in cardio exercises. Cardio exercises get the blood flowing and improves circulation but when you really want to burn the fat away you have to include strength training
• Is effective at working every muscle in your body
• Kettlebells help to strengthen ligaments and tendons. The increased strength of ligaments and tendons means your joints will be stronger and less likely to be injured
• Kettlebell exercises do not cause women to bulk up in muscle mass like lifting traditional barbells will.
• It is very easy to learn how to use the Kettlebell exercises
• Kettlebell exercises increase your coordination

Cardio Fitness for the Aged Person
One needs to understand the pressure put on the heart and lungs by overweight and lack of exercise. Both these are pertinent to people who are over 70 years because many tend to sit back, eat more, and indulge themselves in table games or, like me, on the computer. Hours of sitting is extremely unhealthy and one day a voice inside me told me to join a gym. This was completely unexpected and obeying that voice was the best thing.
That voice inside is well-known to me because of memory of reincarnation and link to the Universal Spirit, the real God. It has given me a job to do which is the reason I spend long hours at the computer. Over the last 30 years or so exercise involved only garden maintenance and walks, aside from house work.
Now the command was received and a local gym for women only received me with open arms. Aside from a fortnightly fee of $38, well affordable on a pension, there are PT classes that include one for healthy heart. It is held twice a week and is basically very enjoyable.
The exercises are simple and over the course of 45 minutes involve little weights, steps, and ball movements, such as throwing and catching. Sometimes there is also some square dancing type movements that help with balance. Stretching and flexing of muscles has become now a daily routine with me.
On the other days the gym provides all forms of equipment for those who want to work-out. For me the bike is my favourite although many use the walking and rowing machines. Other equipment allows stretching of muscles in the neck, back, and legs, which I also find useful.
Building up muscles that have disappeared over the years of inactivity is one of my achievements and being able to get up from the ground when I fall over is another. Since starting at this place my balance has improved to the point where there have been no falls at home whereas before I would trip and fall over anything in my path.
It is something for older people to consider. Don't sit around and wait for death to catch up with you but enjoy yourself doing physical training and show the world what you are made of. The other benefit for me has been the great friends made while exercising - a real bonus.
Norma Holt has knowledge that enables her to understand many issues. Political, social and behavioural problems are usually on her list for discussion as well as anything to do with the Spirit of the Universe and reincarnation, which she experienced. She is happy to hear from any of her readers.

Exercises and Workouts - Four Ways To Boost Your Heart Rate
For many people, hitting the gym is very challenging. It takes time away from your busy schedule and often you are too tired in the first place. However, what you need to remember is exercise does not necessarily have to take place in the gym. There are many ways to fit in a great workout session without even stepping foot in a commercial gym establishment.
All you need to do is get your heart rate up. Do this, and you will be...
- burning calories,
- strengthening muscles,
1. Turn Up The Music And Dance. Dancing is seriously the most natural workout ever - and quite possibly, the most fun. Just turn up the music and get dancing. It is that easy. The faster the music, the quicker you will move therefore the more beneficial this will be.
Dancing is great because it is a full body activity; therefore you are working every muscle group at once. Compare this with say biking at the gym, and you can quickly see the difference.
2. Go For A Swim. Swimming, often regarded as a leisure activity, can still be a great way to get moving and raising your heart rate. It is not necessary to swim actual laps to benefit: this is a mistake many people make in their thinking process, and it turns them off swimming altogether.
Just hit the pool and have some fun. That will be enough.
3. Plant A Garden. Gardening is a fantastic way to burn calories and get in better shape - and it gives you an excellent result because of it. Many people think of yard work as a chore that has to get done but if you look at it as an opportunity to get in some fitness and create something beautiful to look out at day after day, your view may change.
If you do not have a garden, cut the grass. It is a similar concept.
4. Walk The Stairs. One last idea to help you burn a few calories and get your heart rate up if you are stuck for ideas and want to remain indoors, is to walk your stairs. Whether it is the stairs of your house or apartment building, walking up and down the stairs will strengthen your lower body muscles while giving your heart a boost.
Climbing stairs is one of the best cardiovascular exercises out there, so you cannot go wrong with this one. Turn up the music while you do it to make it more enjoyable.
There you have a few of the best ways to burn calories and give your heart a boost. Raising your heart rate a few times a day is a fantastic way to boost your energy level, burn calories, and even improve your mood. Why not give it a try?
Although managing Type 2 diabetes can be very challenging, it is not a condition you must just live with. Make simple changes to your daily routine - include exercise to help lower both your blood sugar levels and your weight.

Why You Should Eat These Foods
About 8 years ago my cousin sent me a paper about healthy foods we have and ways to use them to stay healthy. Because I am passionate about promoting good health, I collect ideas about healthy living whenever I find them. There is a lot of good information everywhere and people are so willing to share what they know.
We are here on this beautiful earth with abundance. By study and seeking wisdom we learn to use what we have. Sharing is part of the gifts we enjoy.
In the Bible we read: GOD first separated the salt water from the fresh, made dry land, planted a garden, made animals and fish... all before making a human. HE made and provided what we would need before we were born. These are best, and more powerful when eaten raw. GOD left us a great clue as to what foods help what part of our body!
Fight Disease, Eat Healthy Foods
A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye. The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye... and YES, science now shows carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes.
A Tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart has four chambers and is red. All of the research shows tomatoes are loaded with lycopine and are indeed pure heart and blood food.
Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food. Grapes resemble the alveoli of the lungs. The lungs are made of branches of ever-smaller airways that end with tiny branches of tissue called alveoli. Alveoli allow oxygen to pass from the lungs to the blood stream. Research has shown that a diet high in fresh grapes can reduce the risk of lung cancer and emphysema.
A Walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds on the nut look just like the neo-cortex. Researchers say walnuts help develop more than three (3) dozen neuron-transmitters for brain function. Because walnuts are loaded with omega-3s, we can consider them the ultimate"brain food". The human brain is about 60% "structural fat". So it needs high-quality fats like omega-3s to function properly and keep the brain fluid and flexible.
Kidney Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function. Yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys. Kidney beans, like most other beans are a very good source of cholesterol-lowering fiber. In addition to lowering cholesterol, kidney beans' high fiber content prevents blood sugar levels from rising too rapidly after a meal. Thus these beans are an especially good choice for individuals with diabetes, insulin resistance or hypoglycemia. Kidney beans are an excellent source of the trace mineral, molybdenum. This is an integral component of the enzyme sulfite oxidase, detoxifies sulfites. Sulfites are a type of preservative commonly added to prepared foods. Side effects of sulfites include rapid heartbeat, headache or disorientation. Reaction to sulfites, may be caused by molybdenum stores too insufficient to detoxify them.
Parsley is an excellent source of vitamin K, vitamin C, as well as a good source of vitamin A, folic acid, and iron. Because parsley is a low calorie nutrient-dense herb, it is useful for many things. It helps boost metabolism, remove excess water from the body, and cleanse the kidneys and livers. This, in turn, keeps the body's functioning at its optimal level and helps in weight loss.
Celery, Bok-Choy, Rhubarb and many more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23 % sodium and these foods are 23% sodium. If you do not have enough sodium in your diet, the body pulls it from the bones, thus making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body.
Avocados, Eggplant and Pears are healthy foods that target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female - they look just like these organs. Today's research shows that when a woman eats one avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight, and prevents cervical cancers. The Aztecs called this the fertility fruit because of the high amounts of Vitamin E in it. And how profound is this? It takes exactly nine (9) months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over 14,000 photolytic chemical constituents of nutrition in each one of these foods (modern science has only studied and named about 141 of them).
Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow. Because figs increase the mobility of male sperm and increase the numbers of Sperm as well they help overcome male sterility. Note: bananas and cucumbers are also good for the male genitals. Like Kidney beans, figs are a good source of fiber and manganese, as well as magnesium, calcium, copper and potassium and vitamins K and B6. They are helpful in lowering blood pressure. Besides keeping much longer, the nutritional value of figs increases when they're dried. A half-cup of fresh figs provides as much calcium as one-half cup of milk. But a single dried fig contains almost as much calcium as an egg. Because figs contain powerful antioxidants they neutralize free radicals in your body and fight disease. This they do whether fresh or dried. These healthy foods grow on trees that seem to grow wild in some warmer climates. I almost envy the people in those climates.
Sweet Potatoes look like the pancreas. Because they are low on the glycemic index they actually balance the blood sugar of diabetics. Sweet potatoes are a great source of B6 vitamins, which are amazing at breaking down homocysteine. Because this substance contributes to the hardening of blood vessels and arteries causing heart attacks we need low homocysteine levels. Sweet potatoes' potassium content helps your heart, as it lowers blood pressure by maintaining fluid balance. Potassium is also an important electrolyte that helps regulate your heartbeat. Hi amounts of manganese is also in sweet potatoes like kidney beans and figs.
Proven Health Benefits of Cinnamon include high antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and protects heart health. Because cinnamon normalizes blood sugar it fights diabetes. Other helps are cognitive brain function, and cancer prevention. We use cinnamon to fight infections and viruses. Did you know sweeter breath and mouth health are great uses for cinnamon? Also candida prevention and cure, healthy skin, and allergy help are uses for cinnamon. Use Cinnamon to Sweeten Recipes without Added Sugar. It is also a natural food preservative to help with other healthy foods.
Because olives are very high in vitamin E they assist the health and function of the ovaries. Also these healthy foods are high in other powerful antioxidants. Studies show that they are good for the heart, and may protect against osteoporosis and cancer. The healthy fats in olives are extracted to produce extra virgin olive oil, one of the key components of the incredibly healthy Mediterranean diet.
Pomegranates are good for the ovaries also. Packed with antioxidants and loaded with vitamin C and potassium, pomegranates are a super food. They can help with risk of heart disease, risk of cancer, diarrhea, cholesterol, weight and cell damage. Pomegranates are one of the few fruits where the juice is just as beneficial as the fruit or seeds. The peel, which you can't eat, contains the most antioxidants, and they are released in abundance when the fruit is squeezed for juicing. They can be juiced with a citrus juicer. I am sure there are healthy foods where you live.
Oranges, Grapefruits, and other Citrus fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female, and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts. These healthy foods are popular and it should be easy to include them in our diet. However, they do not grow where it is cold so we are dependent on the system to bring them to us.
Onions look like the body's cells. Today's research shows onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells. They even produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes. A working companion, Garlic, also helps eliminate waste materials and dangerous free radicals from the body.
Pineapple is also good for the cells and the skin of the pineapple looks like cells look under a microscope. It is loaded with Vitamin C and Manganese. It also improves digestion because it is a great source of bromelain. Bromelain is an enzyme that will help with digestion if eaten with food. If you eat it on an empty stomach it helps with pain and inflammation. Either way it is a win win situation.
Wood Ear Mushroom or Black Fungus. This is a very important food for us that should be incorporated into everyone's diet. I have never heard of this healthy food. After learning the benefits of it I will be wanting to find some. It is beneficial for blood, as it can nourish, activate, and clean the blood all at once. Wood ear counteracts high cholesterol, increases body fluids, and adds moisture to the lung. It is effective in blood coagulation and decreasing blood cholesterol levels.Other amazing benefits include high protein, low-calorie vegetable, high fiber, rich in iron vitamin B-2.
The juice of a potato is good for lung and bronchial problems. Because we usually eat them fried or baked we think of them as unhealthy. Watch this video to learn amazing health benefits of Potato Juice. According to many people the best way to get the benefits of potato is to drink the juice. Healthy foods include Potatoes which are high in vitamin C and helped early sailors fight scurvy. Potatoes are also a rich source of Vitamin B, folate and minerals such as potassium, magnesium and iron. Contrary to popular thought, they are low on the glycemic index and can help you lose weight. Proper preparation is the key.
Lemons are good healthy foods to help the liver and clean out toxins. Other health benefits of lemon include treatment of indigestion, and constipation dental problems, throat infections, fever, internal bleeding, rheumatism, burns, obesity, respiratory disorders, cholera, and high blood pressure, while also benefiting your hair and skin. Known for its therapeutic property since generations, lemon helps strengthen your immune system, cleanse your stomach, and is considered a blood purifier. Lemon juice, especially, has several health benefits associated with it. It is well known as a useful treatment for kidney stones, reducing strokes, and lowering body temperature. As a refreshing drink, lemonade helps you stay calm and cool.
The foods included in this article are only a part of available healthy foods. I was told once that there are foods in every part of the world that will help with our needs. Once I asked about what we have where I live that is a digest aid like pineapple. Well, rhubarb is also a good digest aid. Don't give up learning. You will find foods that work for you available where you live.

How To Get Ready To Grow Old
Growing old is for everyone - yep, even you - so it could be a good idea to prepare for that time. You think you're always going to be as young as you are now, but it doesn't work that way. While 70 might seem a long way off, you'll get there soon and have no idea where the time went. Here's what you can do to ready yourself.
- It's all about attitude: never think of yourself as old. As George Burns said, 'You can't help getting older, but you don't have to get old'.
- Then there's looking after yourself: you only have one body. A great deal of your experience of ageing 'gracefully' will revolve around the state of your health - physical, mental, spiritual. Make sure you're prepared by:
- Maintaining fitness - gym(ing), lifting weights, walking, keeping your legs strong by doing squats.
- Strengthening your core muscles so you'll avoid falling over and breaking anything - yoga is great.
- Quitting smoking.
- Stopping sun worshipping and always wearing sunblock.
- Encouraging friendships.
- Avoiding eating junk food. You be the one who decides what goes into your mouth.
- Getting to a good weight for you and staying there. Overweight oldies experience all sorts of extra inconveniences.
- Taking care of your mind - exposing yourself to high-quality things and meditating daily.
- Looking on life as lightheartedly as you can. Smiling a lot! Living the worst-case-scenario life by asking yourself when you're feeling 'low', will this matter in five months or five years?
- Stopping being a worrywart. As Mark Twain said, 'I've had a lot of worries in my life, most of which never happened'.
- Using what's available to improve the quality of your life - sight and hearing tests, regular dental checkups, financial planning, etc.

Balance Is Key
I can almost guarantee that if you've taken any sort of health class, no matter if it was voluntary or forced by your high school, you've learned all about a balanced diet. You've found the importance of figuring out a way to have your cake and eat healthy too.
When it comes to a healthy lifestyle, I find it important to work out once a day and eat healthy throughout the work week. Let's be honest, the thought of a strict no carb diet is dreadful, and how many times can we actually say it's something we've followed through with? I know for me, the word diet and the thought of a dramatic change are too intimidating to even think about. Instead, I've reverted to a lifestyle with a balanced routine.
As for working out, I have given myself the goal of sweating for at least 30 minutes a day. It gives me the "I did something good for myself" feeling with the "OK I can do this" mentality. I chose 30 minutes a day because it's not only doable but it's also exciting to think I get to set aside a half hour to be with myself, my music, and not care about what everyone else is doing.
Similar to my workout regimen, I have set a limit to going out only on the weekends, except if there's a special occasion. Alcohol consumption is tough on the body and paired with the loss of sleep can cause you to eat more and turn into a cycle of unhealthy chaos. I learned the importance of this balance by first cutting out alcohol altogether, only to experience the pendulum swing to the more common side of casual and social alcohol intake. It took me a while to develop an understanding of how my body reacts to certain spirits, and how often I can drink without putting a damper on the next few days.
For me, finding a balance between dining out and eating in has been nothing short of difficult. From my friends asking me if I want to go to dinner or the thought of not wanting to cook, finding moderation here is tough. Throughout college, I found it difficult to say no to going out to eat because it was social and I was exhausted from my day. However, once I began to meal prep, the game changed for the better. I started to give myself limits once again and told myself if I ate in at least three nights a week, I could go out to dinner on the weekends without feeling guilty.
Balance in life is difficult to find, through the hectic demands of work and the little time we have left for ourselves at the end of the day, I have found it important to balance the few parts we have control of.

20 Ways to Stay Fit With Minimal Effort
Getting fit is not an easy task. It can take weeks or even months of hard training and paying attention to what you eat. Staying fit can be even harder. It is very common to see people meet their fitness goals and then quickly fall off their new healthy lifestyle leading to them reversing all of that progress that they worked so hard for. While staying fit can be hard, there are little things we can do to make the process easier. Try some of these tips for maintaining your fitness level with little effort!

Why Seniors Need To Eat Right And Healthy As They Age
True, eating a well-balanced diet is important at any age, but when you enter into the golden era of your life, you need to give more attention and importance to what you eat. Yes, you have heard this advice before; older adults need to pay special emphasis on their diet. But, do you know why this is so important?
What Happens As You Age?
As you grow older, your appetite, nutritional requirements, and food habits change drastically. Things you didn't worry about earlier now become a major cause of concern. This is because of the following factors:
• Medical Conditions Develop: Health problems are common when you age. High blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes are the common problems that affect aging adults. As a result, you become sensitive to certain foods and hence, need to make changes in your diet.
• Poor Immune System: As you age, your immune system weakens. The chances of developing food poisoning or food-related diseases increase. By taking care to eat healthy, immune-boosting food, you can keep common ailments at bay.
• Need for Fewer Calories: To maintain healthy weight, you require fewer calories. Less energy, reduced physical activity, muscle/joint issues and loss of muscle mass cause your metabolism to slow down. This minimizes your calorie needs.
• Other Factors: You may begin taking medications that affect your appetite; oral health problems can prevent you from eating; or losing a close family member or spouse can take a toll on your regular eating habits.

• Mingle and stay social. Chatting with friends and family can making eating a fun activity.

Baby Boomers: Turn Back the Clock on Your Heart 20 Years With Exercise
I'm loving this latest report. According to a new study, even if you've been pretty much a couch potato for most your life, it's not too late. You can still get in shape now in late middle-age and help your heart function as if it were 20 years younger.
The study published in the American Heart Association's journal, Circulation, looked at healthy but sedentary people between the ages of 45 and 64.
Individuals were put into two different groups. The first group participated in a program of non-aerobic exercise such as yoga, balance training, and weight training three times a week. The second group, did moderate- to high-intensity aerobic exercise for four or more days a week.
After two years, the group engaging in the higher-intensity exercise saw a dramatic improvement in the function of their hearts.
"We took these 50-year-old hearts and turned the clock back to 30- or 35-year-old hearts," said Dr. Ben Levine, a sports cardiologist at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and director of the Institute for Exercise and Environmental Medicine at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. "Their hearts processed oxygen more efficiently and were notably less stiff."
Sorry, but walking the dog around the block a couple days a week doesn't seem to do the trick. Of course, any kind of exercise is better than nothing at all, but if you want to turn the clock back on your heart, a bit more is needed. A key part of the effective exercise regimen was interval training - short bursts of high-intensity exercise followed by a few minutes of recovery.
The researchers eased the exercise group into its routine with three, 30-minute, moderate exercise sessions a week for the first three months and built up to a regular set of workouts that peaked at 10 months and included:
*Two days of high-intensity intervals: four minutes at 95 percent of a person's maximum ability (for example, running at a brisk pace or pedallhttps://ezinearticles.com/?Baby-Boomers:-Turn-Back-the-Clock-on-Your-Heart-20-Years-With-Exercise&id=9912077ing fast against resistance), followed by three minutes of active recovery (jogging slower, walking briskly, or pedalling slower), repeated four times.
*One day of an hour-long moderate-intensity exercise that raised the heart rate and the participant enjoyed like dancing, tennis, swimming, cycling, or a brisk walk.
*One or two days of 30-minute sessions of moderate-intensity exercise, meaning the participant would break a sweat, be a little short of breath, but still be able to carry on a conversation.
*One or two weekly strength training sessions using weights or exercise machines either on a separate day or after an exercise session.
The participants were encouraged to use diversification with lots of different exercise equipment (stationary bikes, treadmills, elliptical trainers) and engage in outdoor exercises (jogging and cycling) to keep themselves motivated and interested, Levine said.
The intense workout was important, Levine emphasized, even if it was just once a week. Pushing as hard as you can for four minutes stresses the heart, he explained, and forces it to function more efficiently. Repeating the intervals helps strengthen both the heart and the circulatory system.
Another benefit? "It breaks up the monotony of just the walking," he said. "Most people really enjoy the high intensity work. You would think that they wouldn't but they like the fact that it's short and they like the fact that they feel stronger afterwards."
The participants tracked their heart rate, which is ideal. But as an alternative, use the simple talk test. During the high-intensity intervals, you should be working hard enough and breathing heavy enough that you can't talk comfortably in long sentences.
Don't wait too long, Levine warned. "The sweet spot in life to get off the couch and start exercising is in late middle-age when the heart still has plasticity," Levine said. You may not be able to reverse the aging of your heart if you wait until after 70 to begin.
But you'll still see benefits from exercising. A research team at Tufts University found that frail people as old as 89 could tolerate an exercise regime that included walking, leg lifts, and stretching. The participants may not have turned back the clock on their hearts, but they improved in ways that could make a big difference. Exercising helped them maintain their mobility and decreased their chances of becoming physically disabled.
"You are never too old, or never too weak, or never too impaired [to benefit from a physical activity program]," said Roger Fielding of Tufts, who led the study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine.
Of course, before starting any strenuous exercise program, be sure and check with your doctor. Then get off that couch and start moving!

Yoga For Seniors And More Proven To Help Many From Normal Ageing Being Frightening
You, me, my neighbor, your neighbor, and everyone that we will ever have a conversation with in our lives, will sooner or later have to deal with the negative results of aging.
This can vary in all ages and from your physical appearance to certainly more major issues that address your health and daily living.
- A concern that many people have as they age is Alzheimer's.
One terrific method to help keep the mind more focused and exercised are things like mindfulness meditation practice, yoga, and some have told me about learning a foreign language.
Even the ever-increasing popular chair yoga for senior citizens is wonderful.
Numerous research studies have actually been conducted which show that individuals who understand more than one language have actually a postponed start of Alzheimer's.

The Body Doesn't want that Nicotine!
Quitting smoking is by far an essential way to secure every element of your body as you age.
Since cigarette smoking already has negative effects like reduced breath, heart disease, and even lowering your taste for good foods.
A heart doctor once told my friend Ronnie when convincing Ron to quit smoking, which he did do, that the "three top causes of heart disease" are: "Smoking, smoking, and smoking."
There you have it!
To put it simply, giving up cigarettes like right NOW, is an apparent method to slow and reduce the impacts of aging.

As you age, you start to lose your muscle density, so you have to make the most out of the muscle mass you have left.
Enter a routine of weight-lifting a couple of times a week so that you can remain strong even as you enter into your later years.

The Benefits of Antioxidants - To Prevent Chronic Diseases And Support Anti Ageing
What are Antioxidants?
Antioxidants are natural substances found mainly in vegetables, fruits, nuts and spices that help prevent or reduce oxidation which occurs at the cellular levels. They do this by removing "free radicals", which, if left alone could oxidize cells - leading to inflammation and chronic diseases like diabetes, joint diseases, atherosclerosis, cancer, dementia and degenerative eye diseases. These harmful chemicals also accelerate the aging process.
What are Free Radicals?
Free radicals are atoms or molecules with an unpaired electron in an atom's outer shell. Being chemically unstable, they are highly reactive and able to cause damage to cells in the body. Some researchers believe that aging occurs because cells accumulate free radical damage over time.
The main contributing factors to excess free radicals in the body are eating the wrong food, stress, pollutants, smoking, over exposure to ultra violet light and harmful bacteria.
The intake of certain prescription drugs and chemotherapy are also linked to free radical formation in the body.
Foods high in free radicals include oil and fats (when heated to high temperature like in frying) overcooked meats and processed meats.
Eating too much sugary foods that cause the blood sugar to spike could also lead to an increase in this harmful chemical in the body
How Antioxidants Prevent Chronic Diseases and Ageing?
Antioxidants prevent ageing by neutralizing and removing free radicals in the body responsible for causing damage to body tissues. In doing so, they help prevent or slow down the impact of chronic diseases and also the ageing process.
Are all Antioxidants the same?
Though the chemical role of antioxidants in the body are quite similar, some antioxidants are known to provide added benefits to specific parts of the body. For examples: flavonoids protects the heart; beta carotene protects the eyes; lycopene benefits the prostrate gland; and, proanthocyanidine contribute to urinary tract health
It is also well established that some antioxidants are more powerful in their actions than others. For example food astaxanthin is reputed to be 500 times more powerful than Vitamin E.
Sources of Antioxidants
The food sources for antioxidants are as follows:
a) Vegetables - carrots, tomatoes, broccolli, spinach, kale, antichoke, sweet potatoes, beetroot and cilantro
b) Fruits - blue berries, grapes, cranberries, elderberries, black berries apples, water melon, wolfberry and citrus fruits
c) Nuts and Seeds - pecans, walnuts, peanuts, kidney beans and flaxseed
d) Beverages - red wine, green tea, cocoa
e) Spices - clove, turmeric, cinnamon, oregano, basil and ginger
The foods listed above are not exhaustive but indicate the more popular ones that are rich in antioxidants.
Supplements
Vitamins A, C and E are among the well known antioxidants while the trace elements selenium, zinc and copper are known for supporting the anti-oxidizing system in the body.
Other antioxidants that are popular for their heath benefits include:
a) Curcumin- protection against cancer, Alzheimer's, heart diseases and arthritis
b) CoQ10 - helps those with heart problems, Parkinson's Disease, hypertension and chronic fatigue syndrome.
c) Glutathione - helps the body produce enzymes, detoxification, digestion of fats and destruction of cancer cells.
d) Lutein and Zeaxanthin - prevents cataracts and macula degeneration
e) Quecetin- supports the heart, fights chronic fatigue syndrome and arthritis
f) Astaxanthin- reduces the chronic effect of diseases including cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and high blood pressure
Are Supplements Necessary?
Getting your antioxidants from natural sources is better due to the complex mix of phytonutrients that you can get from fruits, vegetables, nuts and spices that you may not get from supplements. However, if getting these health giving nutrients from natural sources is a problem or if specific antioxidants are needed for managing certain health problems, supplements can still be of much help.
Conclusion
I hope this article has given you a good overview of antioxidants and the role they play in preventing annd healing chronic diseases.
Research findings of top universities in the US and elsewhere have provided a lot of science-based evidence of the role of antioxidants in preventing and healing chronic diseases and on anti aging.
