Why Exercise? Here's Why
In my mid 30's I was diagnosed with some pretty severe health problems. I can recall the days that I was so run down and so sick, that my work days were shortened to about 3-4 hours a day. This made it tough for my clients because my best hours were from 10:00- 2:00. For that reason, most of my work had to be done from my home office.
During that time I would make it a point to go for a walk at 10:00 in the evening. This was extremely tough for me. As I struggled to make a mile, I wondered if I'd ever get my health back? Exercise and physical activity were always a huge part of my life. Now I spent the majority of my days in bed.
Around age 40 my wife really started to push me. Not in a way that was bad. But, in a way from inspiration. Slowly our walks became longer. I started to workout again in the mornings. While some days I could only manage 10 minutes. My thought process was 10 minutes beats 5. And given my health at that time, I was willing to take any little victory I could get.
Over the course of 3 decades working in mental health, I would often make lateral moves into the fitness industry as a consultant in health and wellness. Working with both local and national chains, I managed several weight loss programs. I knew how weight affected the individual both from a health and mental health standpoint. So, while I would focus on diet from a disease perspective, I would use exercise for overall wellness.
There is no doubt that we all can benefit from daily exercise. And you really do not need to invest in a lot of time to get results. Personally I strive for an hour a day 7 days a week. That's just feels right to me. When I finally was able to regain my health, I promised myself that I would do everything to preserve it. That said, you can see real results in as little as 20 minutes a day 3-4 times a week. What kind of results? Lets take a look at some of the benefits in regular exercise.
1. Reduce stress, depression and anxiety. Exercise has a direct effect on our brain chemistry. A good 30 minute walk or run should release those endorphins. When this happens, you'll feel less stress and increased energy.
2. Confidence does not come easily for most of us. How do we build it? Get moving. Exercise gets you feeling good. When you feel good, you tend to have a better self- image. Better self- image? Oh yeah. There's your confidence.
3. Slows down the aging process. More importantly the cognitive decline. Exercise will not stop this process completely. But, it will help slow it down. And the earlier you start to exercise, the better off you should be.
*Exercise is important at all stages of life. But for cognitive function, starting to exercise between the ages of 25-45 seem most important.
4. Can help control addiction. This can happen two- fold. First, as you exercise you brain releases dopamine {the feel good chemical.} For many in recovery this can be a good substitute. Secondly, exercise can give your life some sense of order, meaning that leads to self- worth. And as an added bonus, exercise that is built into your daily schedule can offer as a distraction for those cravings.
From time to time I hear someone argue that exercise is just another form of addiction. Well it can be. Just as food, porn, shopping and most anything else. But, ask yourself if you would rather be addicted to exercise or drugs? Be stronger than your excuses.
5. When the blood gets flowing we seem to become more creative. This especially happens when we exercise outdoors.
There are so many good reason to start exercising. Some of my biggest success with clients didn't come in the form of a mental health session. They came for a weight loss session. When a person has been diagnosed with several life threatening conditions and then they commit to a wellness process, that is a big success.
In my early 30's I received a call from a women who wanted to see me as a Hypnotherapist. However, when she arrived at my office and I was doing my intake on her, she went onto talk about how she was diagnosed with a brain tumour, breast cancer and several digestive disorders. I quickly thought to myself that my office manager gave me the wrong client file, and that she was there for end of life issues. Or to see the doctor that I worked alongside of. When I questioned her about what she was being seen for, she said without hesitation, I am here to lose 20 pounds so I look good in a bathing suit on vacation. Wow! I love it.
Over the next couple of weeks not only did we use hypnosis, but she was open to change. With some corrections to diet and adding some exercise, not only did she drop the weight, but her digestive problems faded away. I never did see her again after she left for vacation. I can't help but believe we added to the quality of life that she had before.
And just as I found out years later about the power of movement, there are no wonder drug to be found. But if there were, exercise would be one of them.
Now stop reading and get off the computer. Get yourself moving!

Great Benefits of Kettlebell Training
A Kettlebell is a piece of exercise equipment that strongly resembles a cannonball with a handle attached to it. These items are generally made from cast iron or cast steel. They were developed back in the 1700s in Russia. They have been used by athletes to increase their strength and they were even used by the Soviet army in their physical training for their troops.
Some Kettlebells are actually bags filled with sand instead of the cast iron cannonballs, but even the bags are uniquely shaped so they provide an unstable force. These items are often used in swinging motions and they provide excellent cardiovascular responses and they provide good strength training without the person having to repeat one exercise for several repetitions over a long period of time.
• Provides as much, if not more, cardio exercise as a treadmill does
• Can help you create functional strength in muscles without your having to do monotonous isolated repetitions
• Creates flexibility without requiring long, tedious poses
• It is a combination of strength training and cardio training
• You do not need a lot of expensive equipment to do the exercises
• Anyone, of any shape, size, or age can do some type of Kettlebell exercises
• The exercises are not boring because there is such a variety of things you can do
• This is the perfect exercise for people who have a limited amount of time to devote to their daily exercise regimen
• Kettlebell exercises helps to create a denser muscle mass and muscle burns more calories so it eliminates fat stores in the body at a higher rate than if you were simply engaging in cardio exercises. Cardio exercises get the blood flowing and improves circulation but when you really want to burn the fat away you have to include strength training
• Is effective at working every muscle in your body
• Kettlebells help to strengthen ligaments and tendons. The increased strength of ligaments and tendons means your joints will be stronger and less likely to be injured
• Kettlebell exercises do not cause women to bulk up in muscle mass like lifting traditional barbells will.
• It is very easy to learn how to use the Kettlebell exercises
• Kettlebell exercises increase your coordination
• Can help you create functional strength in muscles without your having to do monotonous isolated repetitions

5 Reasons Why You Should Stretch
Stretching is very important in beginning and ending an exercise. But its functions go beyond preventing strains and sprains. So why stretch?
1. Stretching before beginning an exercise prevents injuries. It helps the muscles "warm-up" and prepare before divulging into more intense exercises. It helps prevent "pulled muscles". It allows a longer range of motion. For instance, if you are going to do a strong punch without stretching, you will 'shock' your relaxed muscles into motion, thus it will cause pain and soreness. To prevent these from happening, begin with by gently pumping your arms, or by extending your arms overhead or below. You may also do leg extensions, either on the ground or elevated. For elevated leg stretches, it must not be immediate, but gradual and slow. The higher the leg stretch is, the more the muscles are pulled, so one has to do it slowly. When stretching, don't bounce. Bouncing can cause small tears (micro tears) in the muscles which can cause scar tissues. These scar tissues can make movement painful and future stretching more painful and difficult. If you feel that the stretch is becoming more painful, then it means that you have gone too far. Focus on a more comfortable, pain-free stretch. Make sure to stretch both sides, too. It extends your range of motion more that way. Plus, movement doesn't just go one direction, does it?
2. Stretching improves flexibility. When you constantly stretch, you are also making yourself more flexible, thus activities that require flexibility, such dancing and kicks, short sprints and dashes, even basic tasks such as lifting and tying your shoe, can become easier. Flexibility also wanes s people ages, so it's best to regularly stretch so that you can maintain your flexibility.
3. Stretching promotes better breathing and respiratory (or oxygen) flow. Stretching allows oxygen to flow better through your body and it also helps better blood circulation. Body pains and sores usually root from increased tightness and tension from the lack of oxygen that flows to the different parts of your body. Stretching allows the oxygen to move freely and move better.
4. Stretching reduces stress and improves posture. Stress causes the muscles to tighten and knot, thus it can cause strain and back pains. Tension causes negative effects on your body. Muscles harden and slow down the flow of the oxygen (carried by the blood) to the brain which muddles thinking. Stretching brings back the oxygen flow and regulates it, re-oxygenating the brain and also the heart. Aside from contributing greatly to the circulation or blood flow, stretching also releases endorphins or the feel-good hormones in the body which can improve your mood and make you feel good. Stretching also greatly improves posture as it prevents the muscles from getting too tight, which causes slouching and rigidness of the body. When you have good posture, circulation flows better and you can look good and feel good throughout the day.
5. Stretch after exercising. Lactic acid builds up in your muscles while you exercise which leads to fatigue and soreness. This can be remedied by "cooling down" exercises or post-exercise stretching. Post-exercise stretching can help in workout recovery, decreases muscle soreness that comes after the workout and ensures that your muscles and tendons are in good working order. If you stretch after exercising, you are conditioning your muscles, and, in a way, you are relaxing your muscles after a vigorous regimen. Its goal is to return your muscles to the pre-exercise stage. It's like telling your muscles that the hard part of the workout is done. This part of the exercise is called the "cool down" and usually consists of light exercises such as brisk walking, calf stretching and static stretching. Aside from relaxing your muscles, cool down exercise are also meant to re-oxygenate your heart, since you have used too much oxygen working out. This means allowing steady breathing and the muscles push the oxygen back to the heart.
Stretching, although takes minimal time in the whole workout or exercises, is still a very important part of the activity and should not be taken lightly. How sore you can get or how good you feel after a workout depends on how properly and how effectively you have stretched.

The Surprising Best Ways To Lose Weight After 50
Are you trying to lose a few pounds? Would you love an energy boost? Have you committed more than once to get back in shape only to find it doesn't matter what you do? It's like reading as it gets dark. You finally decide to interrupt your book and flip the switch. When you do however, you find the light switch has no effect and you don't know how to turn it on.
Several things are working against you. Hormones during a woman's late 40s to 60 take her for yet another ride. For some it's a nice cruise, but for others this ride is a roller coaster ride you wish you'd been too short to take. Then there's time, stress, and a good chance that there's been some injury that changes what you can do. Finally, here's some insight on how and why to turn things around.
1. There actually is a best time of day to exercise. The answer to that question has always been the best time is the time you'll do it. Expert opinions lean toward morning since there are fewer interruptions at 5:00 am than later in the day.
A recent study showed that exercise first thing in the morning, in a fasted state, helped burn more fat throughout the day compared to no exercise or the same exercise after breakfast.
In the particular study, subjects followed a diet higher in calories and fat than their usual diet. The study suggests that if you over-indulge you can prevent weight gain by getting up the following morning and exercising with adequate intensity before you've had breakfast.
2. Cortisol is not your keeper. Known as the stress hormone for good reason, cortisol is a necessary hormone in the body. Under stress, particularly prolonged stress, however, higher levels of it encourage fat storage. Easily stored as bat wings and muffin top, it's harder to burn off. Harder to store as deep belly fat you can beat like a drum, it is at least easier to burn off with exercise.
Reducing the amount of cortisol you have in response to stress gets at the real problem. If you focus on losing fat while your body is still on high-speed fat storage you can't win. Once experts suggested reducing exposure to stress. Another suggestion was find your way to yoga or get a hobby. Breath in and breath out. Studies suggest now the ultimate stress strategy is to embrace your stress.
People who think of stress as a positive challenge and expect there will be stress fare better than those of us who believe stress is bad. When you buy into the stress is bad for your health idea, it is. You can change the biology in your body based on your thoughts. Choose a positive attitude toward stress and you will live longer healthier based on mortality rates. Believe stress is bad for health and you shorten your life.
3. Hacking has become a new sport. A hack is a short cut. People are trying to hack sleep, hack work, hack exercise. While it works in some areas as a working smarter not harder or more strategy it doesn't work at all in others. Sleep is one of those areas. If you've been an infomercial fan whose ordered one of those fat loss programs for a quick fix in the past, you'll love this.
Sleep is one of the most passive things you can do to get some weight loss control. When you're sleep deprived your cortisol levels go up. Not only that but two other hormones work against you as well. Ghrelin tells you that you're hungry after a short night. Leptin never tells you you're full. Round out the trio with cortisol and you are likely to eat foods you don't need, never feel you get enough, and then have the super-storage power thanks to cortisol.
Find your optimal sleep length. Do everything you can to protect it. Seek support if you've had sleep problems for years. It's time you got a good night's sleep and you may find that it changes your weight loss efforts.
4. Exercise and diet count but less than you think. We need to eat right. The hard thing here is fine tuning your "right." While we seek diet and exercise changes first to take control, they are really only a part of the picture. Without optimal alignment of your hormones a good diet and exercise won't work and might each contribute to your lack of success.
You want to as Pamela Peeke wrote in her book, Fitness After Forty, have a routine and a stress routine. We often don't adjust. That pushes hormones further out-of-order. If you tend to have a "if I work harder I get better results" ethic you may have to rewind and relax your grip in order for things to work.
What got you here won't get you there. That's a line borrowed from author and coach Marshall Goldsmith. You can't look inside to check whether your hormones are in balance without testing. Yet, if you know, intuitively you know something isn't right here, then focus on these steps first. Then test don't guess to see what you're working against. Even tests sometimes won't come back positive some doctors will admit. You know you. Use that information and find support in creating a priority list of where to begin.

How to Control High Blood Pressure - 5 Tips
The force with which the blood flows in your arteries is called blood pressure. A normal blood pressure is around 120/80 mmHg. If you have a cardiac problem, the force may get stronger and the blood will flow with more pressure in your veins. As a result, the higher pressure puts more stress on your heart and veins. This may cause damage to your heart. In severe cases, patients suffer from a heart attack because of high blood pressure. Therefore, it's important that you control your blood pressure with the following home remedies.
Get moving
It's a good idea to exercise for at least 30 minutes in the morning on a regular basis. This can bring the reading down by up to 9 mmHg. However, you should keep in mind that you should take a slow start and then keep on picking up the pace as well as the frequency of your workouts.
If you don't want to join a gym, you can go for a swim, jog or a hike. Actually, what you need to do is get moving. Aside from this, you can give a go to doing pushups, and lifting weights.
Change your diet
If you follow a good diet, you can reduce your blood pressure by up to 14mmHg. Ideally, your diet should include whole grains, vegetables and fruits. Apart from this, you may want to try fish, nuts, lean meats and dairy products that are low in fat. The food that you should eliminate from your diet should be fatty meats, fatty dairy products and products that are high in fat. It's also a good idea to avoid sweetened beverages like fruit punch and soda.
Use less salt
You may want to use salt sparingly to keep your blood pressure normal. When you use too much salt, your body retains liquid. As a result, your BP goes up. According to doctors, you should not take more than 1.4 grams of salt per day. In other words, the maximum amount of salt you can take is half a teaspoon in 24 hours. As an alternative to salt, you can use herbs and spices.
Control your weight
Your weight has a significant impact on your blood pressure. So, if you are overweight, losing even a few pounds like 4 kg can help a lot. Therefore, we suggest that you keep an eye on your waistline. Ideally, if you are a man, your waist should not measure more than 40 inches. On the other hand, the maximum allowance for women is 35 inches.
Lower your stress level
Since this is a fast-paced world, it is difficult to slow down and unwind for a while. Stress is a result of the never-ending daily chores. So, it's important that you get some time off and reduce your stress. As a matter of fact, stress raises your blood pressure putting you at a higher risk of heart attacks.
So, if you have been looking for natural ways to keep your blood pressure normal, we suggest that you follow the methods given in this article.
Are you trying to find out how to control high blood pressure? If so, we suggest that you check out Baba Ramdev Medicines.

Exercises and Workouts - Four Ways To Boost Your Heart Rate
For many people, hitting the gym is very challenging. It takes time away from your busy schedule and often you are too tired in the first place. However, what you need to remember is exercise does not necessarily have to take place in the gym. There are many ways to fit in a great workout session without even stepping foot in a commercial gym establishment.
All you need to do is get your heart rate up. Do this, and you will be...
- burning calories,
- strengthening muscles,
1. Turn Up The Music And Dance. Dancing is seriously the most natural workout ever - and quite possibly, the most fun. Just turn up the music and get dancing. It is that easy. The faster the music, the quicker you will move therefore the more beneficial this will be.
Dancing is great because it is a full body activity; therefore you are working every muscle group at once. Compare this with say biking at the gym, and you can quickly see the difference.
2. Go For A Swim. Swimming, often regarded as a leisure activity, can still be a great way to get moving and raising your heart rate. It is not necessary to swim actual laps to benefit: this is a mistake many people make in their thinking process, and it turns them off swimming altogether.
Just hit the pool and have some fun. That will be enough.
3. Plant A Garden. Gardening is a fantastic way to burn calories and get in better shape - and it gives you an excellent result because of it. Many people think of yard work as a chore that has to get done but if you look at it as an opportunity to get in some fitness and create something beautiful to look out at day after day, your view may change.
If you do not have a garden, cut the grass. It is a similar concept.
4. Walk The Stairs. One last idea to help you burn a few calories and get your heart rate up if you are stuck for ideas and want to remain indoors, is to walk your stairs. Whether it is the stairs of your house or apartment building, walking up and down the stairs will strengthen your lower body muscles while giving your heart a boost.
Climbing stairs is one of the best cardiovascular exercises out there, so you cannot go wrong with this one. Turn up the music while you do it to make it more enjoyable.
There you have a few of the best ways to burn calories and give your heart a boost. Raising your heart rate a few times a day is a fantastic way to boost your energy level, burn calories, and even improve your mood. Why not give it a try?
Although managing Type 2 diabetes can be very challenging, it is not a condition you must just live with. Make simple changes to your daily routine - include exercise to help lower both your blood sugar levels and your weight.

Healthy Living - Make Cooking at Home Part of Your Lifestyle
Most health problems today are primarily a result of indiscretion: most illnesses are self-inflicted. Not always of course, but it is predominantly the case we are at fault, and we could have done much better.
Nutrition is a big part of it. What we put into our body matters a lot more than you may think. Food is more than just fuel. However, even on that note, think about it this way. If you owned a luxury car like a Bentley or a Ferrari, would you opt for a "low-grade" fuel? You need to treat yourself as you deserve, and it is the very best. Not only should you eat well, but you need to cook a majority of the time also. Do both at once...
1. Make cooking convenient. Perhaps your reason for not preparing your meals is a lack of time or practice. The second is easily solved - cook more often! There is no better day than today for getting started: millions of recipes are at your fingertips - one search away.
A lack of time can be a barrier, and this is why you need to make cooking convenient. Cook a few times a week but make large portions to cover several meals. Or cook regularly, but make simple, healthy meals. Save the more elaborate dishes for the weekend.
If it helps, treat yourself to new kitchen tools: anything that makes cooking more practical for you.
2. Make cooking enjoyable. Cooking does not have to feel like a chore...
- have music playing in the background or listen to a podcast.
- try some new recipes.
Do the above, and you will quickly make cooking a habit. It is a habit that pays for itself - the time you invest will earn you dividends in the form of better health. Even if you are not always preparing perfectly healthy meals, chances are you will be doing better than throwing pre-made food in the oven or microwave.
Take pride in preparing and cooking your meals. Invest more in this essential life skill. As long as you are not engaging in bad habits too often - like snacking or being completely sedentary, the difference it makes will be positive. It will help you prevent common health problems and improve your health and in turn, live a healthier life.
Although managing your disease can be very challenging, Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. You can make simple changes to your daily routine and lower both your weight and your blood sugar levels. Hang in there, the longer you do it, the easier it gets.
For nearly 25 years Beverleigh Piepers has searched for and found a number of secrets to help you build a healthy body. Go to http://DrugFreeType2Diabetes.com to learn about some of those secrets.
The answer isn't in the endless volumes of available information but in yourself.

6 Key Steps To Healthy Ageing
Healthy ageing seems so straightforward, doesn't it? Yet few people think into the future. However, you would be surprised to know the actual number of people who age gracefully, without significant health issues.
Can regular people avoid these health issues? Most definitely. But you will have to make some changes to your lifestyle now. Follow these tried and proven tips to achieve healthy ageing.
Keep Active
The need for exercise does not decrease with age, contrary to what many adults believe and follow. Think of your body as an automobile; the first few years, (your youth), are virtually trouble free, with only basic maintenance necessary.
However, as you accumulate mileage, (age), wear and tear occur. More aggressive maintenance needs to be performed. Think of bone loss, reduced hormone levels and reduced ability to heal and recover as remediable maladies with a good dose of exercise.
Include both cardiovascular and resistance exercise into your program to keep your heart, bones, brain and muscles strong.
Sleep On It
A significant percentage of the elderly population suffers from depression, although it often goes undiagnosed.
The cause? The feeling that their use is limited, and that they are mere distractions in the lives of others.
A simple fix? Sleep, and lots of it.
Older adults can require as much sleep as toddlers, yet get much less, and even less than working adults. Sleep will also help to stimulate the release of Growth Hormone, much sought after in the anti-ageing community.
An Ounce Of Prevention Goes A Long Way
Although as we age the need for preventative medical treatment increases, fewer older adults visit the doctor preventatively. Many falls, injuries and fractures of the elderly can be avoided by attending regularly scheduled clinic visits, during which advance preventative directives are issued. At a minimum, a semi-annual checkup is warranted, with increased frequency if suffering from pre-existing conditions.
Have Sex!
Don't be misled by the myth that sex is unimportant once you hit the golden years. Sex is one of the strongest mood elevators, anti-depressants and stress reliever known to man.
Of course, we don't expect you to go crazy and injure yourself during this healthy practice, but keep those hormones active and parts working well.
Sexual activity is also a good cardiovascular workout, and everyone knows cardio is good for you!
Ditch Bad Lifestyle Habits
If in your youth, you were accustomed to hitting bars a few times a week that needs to stop now. There is no benefit to hard drinking sessions, and it's even worse when coupled with smoking.
Smoking is notorious for accelerating agehttps://ezinearticles.com/?6-Key-Steps-To-Healthy-Aging&id=9659682ing, skin deterioration, promoting cancer risk, increasing cardiac episodes, and generally worsening your quality of life. Make a conscious effort to kick those bad habits before they lead you to an early grave. Find other social events that make you happy, without the bad repercussions of abusing your body.
Switch To A Greener Diet
It's not shocking with the number of diabetics in our midst that in order to prevent similar outcomes, radical changes need to be made to our way of eating. Diets high in refined carbohydrates and processed sugars, coupled with fats pave the way to heart disease, diabetes, and even cancer.
The number one way to beat these bad eating habits? Eat green- and plenty of it. Greens make you full easier, and keep you satisfied for a longer period of time, so the need to snack is reduced.
Also, vegetables are loaded with beneficial phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals, which help promote optimal metabolism and the elimination of toxins.
Conclusion
Staying healthy while you age is made easier than ever, thanks to the era we live in. 200 years ago, median life expectancy was significantly lower, as medical care was sparse and healthy habits were in their infancy. Make use of all that is around you and enjoy all that life has to offer!
