How Home Elderly Exercise Programs Are Beneficial For Senior Citizens
As a modernized society, we've come to understand a great deal about living and the human body at all ages. In response to such advancement in knowledge, one of the benefiting parties is the senior citizen. In our case in point, the specific benefit is that of having access to what are known today as elderly home exercise programs.
Mostly, these programs consist of directed exercise routines and overall physical activity management. In most cases, they are administered by a professional coach in a residential or group home setting. In many other cases, however, the senior may manage their routine independently.
Exercises, Progression
The exercises and techniques utilized in such a program may, in fact, vary as much as the individual being served. One individual may require added lower body activity and at a heightened rate. Another person, on the other hand, might need accurate arm and shoulder exercises for some reason, and at a very light pace. Whole-body programs are also quite common.
Progression and adaptation are additional strengths of such home exercise programs. Because of their individualized application and parameters from one individual to another, direct adaptation to physical needs of the senior at that time can be applied. Change can be tracked and thus adapted to from one minute or one session to the next.
For example, Joe, a senior in New York utilizes a service called "Elderly Home Exercise Program NYC." He has been excelling and moving on via this home program from a recent back injury. However, he then fell and experienced some additional leg injuries. To adapt, his home exercise coordinator then works with doctor advice and Joe to adopt a new schedule and routine to his new and very sensitive needs.
The Benefits
So, what exactly are the specific benefits to such home-based elderly exercise programs? In essence, these programs, if followed correctly, can have all of the advantages of regular exercise and physical activity that are appropriate to one's age and condition. This is with the additional benefit of professional guidance and oversight. Here are some of the scientifically-backed benefits of such physical activity for the elderly, in our case, as conducted by way of home elderly exercise programs.
Energy
We all know that it does take some energy to exercise or even perform very light activity. However, did you know that studies show even a light activity regimen can give one more energy? The official figures cited by the study were an estimated 20% in energy increase after even light activity.
Better Overall Feeling, Wellness
Aside from just heightened energy, study after study has shown that seniors and all other age groups also benefit in some other, often immeasurable ways concerning overall self-feelings and the sense of well-being. Psychologically and physically, the body is better with use, particularly since an instrument against aging. Much is already known, but science is still learning about this combined matter of body chemistry, psychology, and physiology.
Longevity
Longevity, or the aptitude to be able to live long and healthily, has been proven time and time again to be directly associated with exercise and maintaining some level of physical activity. Typical home sessions can run anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes. As science has shown, even the most basic and brief, daily activities can lead to some longevity improvements.
Heightened Immune Response
Officially, this is not proven, however, it is strongly theorized that the immune system, like the rest of the body, benefits directly from physical activity. Some science points to the involved use of the lungs and a sort of flushing of bacteria when worked. Other research points to directly related changes to white blood cells and immuno-response mechanisms. One can be fairly certain, though, that one day over the horizon, proof will likely come that illustrates the heightened immune response to physical activity.
Home programs for elderly exercise and health are beneficial in some ways. These programs oversee and administer just the right amount of activity for any body, at any age. These are the basics of these programs and their associated benefits.

Benefits of Dance for Older People
Dancing is a past time enjoyed by many both young and old across the world on a daily basis. Whether it is dancing whilst listening to music whilst doing the housework or attending a weekly salsa class the beauty of dance is that it is really for everyone and can be enjoyed at any time.
However we would like to highlight the benefits of dance particularly for older adults.
Promotes physical activity
Older people are less likely to exercise however those who partake in regular physical activity are more likely to live longer as they maintain their balance, strength gait and cardiovascular health. Dance is great for older adults as it is a low level exercise that works all of the body from head to toe and encourages moving through a space, gets the heart pumping and provides the opportunity to gently move and stretch.
Promotes cognitive function
Older people typically experience a progressive decline in cognitive ability, memory and reaction time as they age. Learning dance steps and sequences can be mentally demanding and is a skill that needs to be developed but dancers are known to maximize cognitive function and muscle memory through practice. Dance also challenges reaction time and perception because of the quick thinking that is required to remember what step comes next.
Promotes Social Inclusion
Older people are especially vulnerable to loneliness and social isolation. Dance is a social activity where people meet weekly and form friendships. The best dance classes are the ones where the dancers go and have a coffee and a chat afterwards reducing the feeling of loneliness and isolation.
Improves mental wellbeing
Older people are more vulnerable to experiencing mental health problems, with depression affecting around 22% of men and 28% of women aged 65 years and over. Dance can help to reduce stress, increases levels of the feel-good hormone serotonin, and helps to develop new neural connections, especially in regions involved in executive function, long-term memory, and spatial recognition. Dance which is a meaningful activity can also encourage individuals to focus on activity for a sustained period and help individuals feel a sense of achievement when they have learnt the steps to a challenging routine.
Promotes self-expression
Older people may not get the opportunity to express their creativity and perhaps are no longer self-aware. Dancing can be powerful energy release that can release tension and provide you with the opportunity to explore your own range of movement and feelings. If you choose to dance to music then there are the added benefits of having songs as a stimulus which can also enhance your mood and also perhaps encourage reminisce.
So dust off your dancing shoes and Keep Dancing.

3 Healthy Cooking Tips Everyone Should Know
These days, we are inclined to take care of our health in many ways and healthy eating is one of them. This health consciousness has given rise to improved and often different cooking methods and recipes because food is not only a source of energy; it also is something that brings immense pleasure to all of us. Healthy cooking and healthy eating helps us stay away from health problems.
What is a healthy meal? It usually means one that fulfills our daily requirement of essential nutrients. A healthy meal can be prepared by healthy cooking methods like grilling, braising, microwaving, baking, or steaming. And also by using organic ingredients whenever you can. All supermarkets store organic food today, so availability should not be an issue.
Are you here because you have been searching for healthy cooking tips? Look no further. So read on for some majorly lip-smacking inspiration. And if you are a vegan, you will like my tips all the more!
Swap cashews for dairy in cream sauce
Making a tasty sauce with cashews is simple. Put some cashews and a little water in your blender and you have a smooth rich cream sauce so versatile that you can flavor it with just about anything.
If it's savory that you like, use onions and garlic to jazz up the sauce. If you are looking for something to satisfy your sweet tooth, simply infuse it with agave and vanilla.
And as we all know, cashews are goodies loaded with heart-healthy monounsaturated fats so good for us. They are also rich in magnesium and lower in fat compared to other nuts. So cashews promote healthy joints and bones. Now isn't that a bonus, apart from tasty food?
While baking, sub in vinegar to slash calories
Have you ever thought of replacing eggs with vinegar while baking cakes? It sure sounds strange, but it's a great choice. Your cakes will come out moist and fluffy because the vinegar will bind the cakes better than eggs. Vinegar can also control high blood sugar and insulin resistance as well as tone down appetite. And if you are worrying your cakes will taste vinegary, put those doubts to rest. You absolutely won't be able to tell.
Here's another superb baking hack. Replace the butter with an avocado. Just use a little more of the wet ingredients to balance everything out.
Dark chocolate is yummy!
If you are a chocoholic like me, you will be drooling by this time. For a snack, ever wondered that dark chocolate might be better for your health than sweet milk chocolate, or white chocolate? Yes, it's true indeed. Dark chocolate is rich in antioxidants and good for your heart. So the next time you feel like nibbling on milk chocolate candy, get some pure decadent and sinful dark chocolate. You will be delighted that you did.
In cooking, use dark chocolate chips instead of milk chocolate chips. If you want to make sure your dark chocolate is vegan, simply check the label to see if they contain whey or milk solids. You can even put some chips or a chunk of dark chocolate into your morning smoothie. It will give you a brilliant antioxidant boost in a delicious way!

Three Easy Ways to Stay Healthy After Age 50
Have you ever just sat back and looked at people? I know, it seems kind of invasive. But seriously, have you ever just sat on a park bench or in a restaurant and just looked at people? You have, haven't you? And what did you see? You saw their physical appearance more than anything else. Some looked good, some looked average and some, well, not so much.
Now as weird it may seem for you to do such a thing, it is actually very normal. Observation is just part of life. But have you ever considered that people also look at you? You have. Part of the reason we stare in the mirror as we are getting ready for any outing is because we know people will be seeing us and yes, observing us. We want to feel good about ourselves. We want people to make positive observations. But more than that we also just want to feel good. This is particularly true if you have crossed the 50 year mark of life.
So, where am I going with this? Many years ago when I was a kid in the late 1960s there was a guy on television who had a revolutionary program for the time called "The Jack LaLanne Show." Of course the man's name was Jack LaLanne.
LaLanne was enthusiastic about health and wellness for people of every age. In today's culture and world we see so many ways to "lose weight" and "get in shape." It seems that every other day there is a new program, a new diet, a new system, or a new plan that is endorsed by a famous celebrity. The health and wellness industry is a multi-billion dollar empire.
Perhaps you have tried some of those programs or diets. I certainly have. What I found was that most were too hard, too expensive, too time-consuming, too strenuous, and so forth.
So, when I needed to lose weight and keep healthy (at least as healthy as I could for my age) I sat back and said to myself, "You know Tony, this shouldn't be that hard." That's when Jack LaLanne came to my memory. I quickly searched the internet and found tons of information about LaLanne. But what I found that was most helpful was his 3-pronged formula for health and wellness. The best part was that it was not too hard, too difficult, too expensive, or too anything. And here is his 3-Pronged System...
The Three Easiest Ways to Stay Healthy After Age 50
1. Get daily exercise.
2. Eat a healthy diet that limits greasy or sugary foods.
3. Get lots of rest and recreation.
Now THAT I could do. And I did.
So, if you are over 50 and you want to look and feel your best then get back to these basics provided by Jack LaLanne. Eat sensibly, Get your heart rate up for about 20 minutes every day by doing something as simple as climbing up and down stairs at an accelerated pace. Lastly, get plenty of sleep and do the things you enjoy.

Some Really Important Reasons To Sleep Well
A US military sleep study, reported in the Dr Amen podcast analysed the effects of sleep deprivation of target shooting accuracy.
7 hours sleep resulted in 78% accuracy.
6 hours was just 50% accuracy
5 hours dropped to 28% accuracy
4 hours plummeted to a low 14% accuracy.
OK so you may not be using weapons on a daily basis but we all need our brains for multiple daily functions which require focus and accuracy.
Simple things like driving, judging distance, making decisions, concentrating, writing, memory etc. I heard this information on a day when I had a bad night's sleep the night before, and I could feel it.
That day I had a two hour drive ahead of me, but because it was something I could postpone I decided it wiser to stay home and not take my tired brain onto the highway. A place where life and death decisions may need to be made in micro seconds.
In the past year there has been an important discovery that our brain has a natural detoxification drainage system, which is similar to our lymphatic system, and this drainage occurs when we are asleep. But we need healthy sleep for this to occur.
In past decades it was almost a badge of honor to claim that you only need a few hours' sleep, and that you could get more done. At last this crazy type behavior has been clearly shown to be detrimental to thinking and performance, so now the movers and shakers in Silicon Valley are priding themselves on getting 8 hours sleep.
When we sleep well we spend periods of time in the deep delta wave phase. This is when your body repairs and heals. Without this phase we will experience more inflammation and therefore we will age faster, experience more pain, have less energy, and think less clearly.
Light noise, alcohol, caffeine, temperature and blue light from electronic devices are all disruptive to good sleep, and these can all be controlled or limited entirely or at least to a large extent. Trying to do more by sleeping less may work for a few days but overall it will have a negative effect.
The key is to consider sleep as an important part of your day and jealously protect it, fight for and don't easily give it up for other activities. The payoff is substantial and you will feel so much better.

Calcium Needs At All Life Stages
It is the most abundant mineral in the body, present mainly in the bones and teeth. From the start, toddlers have an increased need for dietary calcium to support bone growth and skeletal development that takes place rapidly in the early years of life. This development and its need - continues into the teenage years and is particularly crucial for adolescent girls who need to stock their calcium supplies to prevent osteoporosis later in life. Adequate intake at this stage is needed to support ongoing bone growth and to achieve peak bone mass. It is an essential dietary element required in optimal amounts for good bone health, efficient nerve and muscle function, and overall cardiovascular health. Without enough of it throughout life, a person's bones can begin to weaken over time. That can make it more difficult to stay active while also creating a higher risk of fractures and osteoporosis. A person's bone density will generally reach its peak at roughly age 30, and then begin to fade after that. Adequate daily intake can help maintain proper bone density and help prevent osteoporosis - which creates porous and fragile bones. It makes up about three percent of the earth's crust and is a basic component of most animals and plants. Eating a diet rich in calcium helps to restore it to the bones; supplements can help as well.
Why is calcium necessary?
It is known mostly for its role in building and maintaining strong bones and teeth, but it is also required for proper functioning of the heart, muscles and nervous system. It plays a role in maintaining normal blood pressure, regulating blood clotting. It is also associated with relieving mood swings, food cravings, and decreasing the pain, tenderness and bloating associated with premenstrual syndrome.
What are the deficiency signs?
Deficiency symptoms (also known as hypocalcemia) range from minor - numbness or tingling of the fingers, muscle cramps, lethargy and poor appetite - to more severe, including mental confusion, skeletal malformations, dermatitis, and in infants, delayed development. Illnesses such as osteoporosis (brittle, thin, porous bones that easily break) and rickets are also associated with a deficiency.
How much, and what kind, does an adult need?
If vitamin D levels are optimal, most adults should be able to meet their daily calcium needs via a varied diet. When individuals are unable to get enough of it through a diet or for those who may need more than the recommended daily allowance, supplements can help. Doctors recommends women supplement with 500 to 700 mg of calcium citrate in two divided doses taken with meals for a total of 1,000-1,200 mg a day from all sources. Supplementing with its citrate form, which is more easily absorbed than other forms, taken with half the dosage amount of magnesium.
How much does a child need?
The normal daily recommended intake for children is as follows: infants through three years of age is 400-800 mg; children between 4 and 10 years of age is 800 mg; adolescent males is 800-1,200 mg; and adolescent females is 800-1,200 mg daily.
How do you get enough from foods?
How do you get enough from foods?
An abundant source of this mineral in the American diet is dairy products - two glasses of milk per day provide 1,000-1,200 mg. If you choose to get via dairy products - and this is not essential, as there are many other calcium-rich foods - make sure you use only hormone-free, organic dairy products to reduce your exposure to the antibiotics and hormones found in many dairy products. Non-dairy foods include: greens such as collards, mustard, kale, and bok choy; canned salmon (with bones) and sardines; tofu, soy milk, fruit juice and cereals; blackstrap molasses; and broccoli.
Are there any risks associated with too much?
Its supplements can be constipating, and should be balanced with magnesium as discussed above. Excessive amounts in the blood may have negative effects, including nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and increased urination. More serious complications include kidney toxicity, confusion, and irregular heart rhythm. Studies indicate that men who take too much may have an increased risk of prostate cancer, and should limit their dietary intake to 500-600 mg daily from all sources.
Who should we take it as supplements?
It is an important mineral for the human body. It helps build and protect your teeth and bones. Getting enough of it over your lifetime can help prevent osteoporosis. Most people get it through their normal diet. Dairy foods and leafy green vegetables have high levels of calcium. Your health care provider will tell you if you need to take extra dose id required.
TYPES OF CALCIUM SUPPLEMENTS
Forms of calcium include:
Calcium Type
Pros
Calcium citrate (21% calcium)
Most easily absorbed
Calcium carbonate
Least expensive; has more elemental calcium
Calcium Type
Pros
Calcium citrate (21% calcium)
Most easily absorbed
Calcium carbonate
Least expensive; has more elemental calcium
Calcium carbonate. Over-the-counter (OTC) antacid products contain it and these sources of it do not cost much. Each pill or chew provides 200 mg or more of calcium.
Calcium citrate. This is a more expensive form of calcium. It is absorbed well on an empty or full stomach. People with low levels of stomach acid (a condition that is more common in people over age 50) absorb this better than other forms.
HOW TO TAKE HIGHER DOSE
Increase the dose of your supplement slowly. Your provider may suggest that you start with 500 mg a day for a week, and then add more over time.Try to spread the extra dose you take over the day. DO NOT take more than 500 mg at a time. Taking it throughout the day will:
Allow more calcium to be absorbed
Cut down on side effects such as gas, bloating, and constipation
The total amount adults need every day from food and supplements:
19 to 50 years: 1,000 mg/day
51 to 70 years: Men - 1,000 mg/day; Women - 1,200 mg/day
71 years and over: 1,200 mg/day
The total amount adults need every day from food and supplements:
19 to 50 years: 1,000 mg/day
51 to 70 years: Men - 1,000 mg/day; Women - 1,200 mg/day
71 years and over: 1,200 mg/day
SIDE EFFECTS AND SAFETY
DO NOT take more than the recommended amount of it. Try the following if you have side effects from taking extra calcium:
Drink more fluids.
Eat high-fiber foods
Switch to another form of calcium if the diet changes do not help.
Always tell your provider and pharmacist if you are taking extra dose. Its supplements may change the way your body absorbs some medicines. These include certain types of antibiotics and iron pills.
Are there any other special considerations?
Vitamin D is key to absorbing and so make sure to get adequate intake of vitamin D. Vitamin D, often referred to as the "sunshine vitamin," is actually a fat-soluble hormone that the body can synthesize naturally. There are several forms, including two that are important to humans: D2 and D3. Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) is synthesized by plants, and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is synthesized by humans when skin is exposed to ultraviolet-B (UVB) rays from sunlight. The active form of the vitamin is calcitriol, synthesized from either D2 or D3 in the kidneys. Vitamin D helps to maintain normal blood levels of calcium and phosphorus.
Vitamin K2 is a beneficial form of Vitamin K for bones. Unlike Vitamin K1 which is used to activate blood clotting proteins, Vitamin K2 is beneficial for activating proteins which help bind calcium to bones. Vitamin K2 is found in food but not in anywhere near the concentration found in Osteo-K. Taking Osteo-K helps boost daily intake of vitamin K2 to support bone health. Older people may need to take it in extra larger doses because they do not absorb it as well as younger people.
If you take oral vitamin D,you also need to take vitamin K2. Vitamin K2 helps to move calcium to proper areas where its needed and removes it from sites where it shouldn't be present like arteries and soft tissues. When you take vitamin D, your body creates more of these vitamin K2-dependent proteins, the proteins that will move it around. They have a lot of potential health benefits. But until the K2 comes in to activate those proteins, those benefits aren't realized. So, really, if you're taking vitamin D, you're creating an increased demand for K2. Vitamin K2 deficiency is one of the reason why people suffer from vitamin D toxicity symptoms which includes improper calcification leading to hardening of arteries. And vitamin D and K2 work together to strengthen your bones and improve your heart health.
It seems likely that 150 to 200 mgs of vitamin k2 is enough to activate your K2 dependent proteins to shuttle calcium to proper areas.
How can you tell that you are deficit of vitamin k2?
There is no specific tests for finding it. By assessing the lifestyle and diet you eat,one can find whether he is lacking the critical nutrients needed for the body. If you face following health conditions then you are likely deficient in vitamin K2.
Do you have osteoporosis?
Do you have heart disease?
Do you have diabetes?
If you are facing such symptoms, its better to think on deficiencies and take necessary steps.

Health and Wellness Tips With A Long Fitness Life
Your health is your wealth. A healthy man is a wealthy man, literally. You may think of a tycoon who owns so much material wealth but their health troubles them. What is the point of all the material wealth if you cannot enjoy it? The money spent on doctors could have been channelled in other better avenues. Similarly, ever thought of how quick an employee gets replaced at work? You probably fell ill or a colleague passed on. The job vacancy goes up no sooner than the bad news leaves your mind.
Therefore, it is important that you take care of your health. It is with this in mind, we have noted down these health tips. There are simply recommendations. We are free to do more or less, as per what we desire.
1. Drink Water
This may sound cliché but it is very important. Top of the list in good health tips to practise is staying hydrated. The human body functions mainly on water. Take a person who is fasting, they can do away with food but they are allowed to take water. Water keeps you alert and keeps your body functional. At times, people have headaches simply because of dehydration. However, most people are quick to take paracetamol tablets. It is recommended that you take between 6 - 8 glasses of water every day. Stay hydrated and you definitely will remain rejuvenated.
2. Work out
Among daily health tips that we should not compromise is working out. Now, you don't need to have a gym membership. Life is not as complicated. We all want to have the gym membership but what if you don't? You can simply buy a skipping rope and put in the cardio at home. Get a comfortable pair of trainers and have a morning or evening run. If that's too much, walk. If you own a pet, this can be ideal timing for you to bond.
3. Meditate
The career woman today has so much going on in her daily activities. She ought to be a wife at home, mother and deliver at work. It is very easy to lose yourself when so much is expected of you. Among the health tips for women would be embracing meditation. Most people say they don't have time for such but if it is important, you find time for it. Take time alone and just get lost in your positive thoughts. Visualize or even take part in yoga. You take control of your emotional health particularly which is very important.
4. Sleep well
Sleep is a very debatable subject. Some people prescribe 8 hours of sleep while others prescribe 6 hours. In the same line of thought, you hear of very successful people who sleep for 4 hours and are very functional. Therefore, my recommendation is sleep well. It is not the quantity but quality of sleep that counts. If you sleep for 10 hours and it's a noisy place, you won't rest well. You can however sleep for 2 hours in a very serene environment and get up very energetic. It is the quality that counts, not the quantity.
A power nap in the afternoon is said to keep one youthful. I don't know how true it is but there could be truth to it. What I know is that when you feel sluggish in the afternoon, a power nap goes a long way. There is no point of dragging through your tasks yet you can just sleep for ten minutes and be rejuvenated. However, do not be a serial afternoon sleeper and call it a power nap. That is outright laziness.
5. Eat well
Among the good health tips to practise on a daily is your diet. Having a balanced diet is very important. Your body will not lack anything. Similarly, with food it is the quality and not quantity that matters. You may eat so much but your body will only take up what it needs. That roast beef can be very tempting but your body will only take up the amount of protein needed. Just have the appropriate serving for you. What is not used up ends up being fat in your body.
6. Laugh more
As absurd as it sounds, this is the easiest good health tip you can utilise. We live in a world where everybody is focused on getting things done. People no longer savour the taste of good food. People can't smell well brewed coffee. It is sad. People's moods are at an all time low. To avoid this, just afford a good laugh each day. Find humour in the little things. If laughing is tedious, smile. You never know who you will smile at and they will have a great day just because of your smile.
7. Socialise
Perhaps you are wondering what this means? In the office setting, people don't necessarily socialise. Everyone is doing what brought them there and are quick to head home as soon as they are done. Not many people would say they are close to their colleagues. We don't know what challenges our colleagues may be facing at home. Similarly, people don't know if you have challenges.
It is a great daily health habit to socialise especially with your loved ones. Make time to be with your family. This is perfect to get away from the hustle of making a living. Through family and loved ones, you get to appreciate what life has to offer. You count your blessings and just soak in each moment.
Leading a healthy lifestyle is an option each of us can make. It can be challenging however, since not many people appreciate healthy living. Or maybe they do, they are just not willing to put in the work. Therefore, be the agent of change. You can exemplify what healthy living is like. If you don't practise any of the above daily healthy habits, there is hope. Just practise with one. Increase your water intake or just sleep a bit better. With time, you will reap the benefits.

Healthy Living - Make Cooking at Home Part of Your Lifestyle
Most health problems today are primarily a result of indiscretion: most illnesses are self-inflicted. Not always of course, but it is predominantly the case we are at fault, and we could have done much better.
Nutrition is a big part of it. What we put into our body matters a lot more than you may think. Food is more than just fuel. However, even on that note, think about it this way. If you owned a luxury car like a Bentley or a Ferrari, would you opt for a "low-grade" fuel? You need to treat yourself as you deserve, and it is the very best. Not only should you eat well, but you need to cook a majority of the time also. Do both at once...
1. Make cooking convenient. Perhaps your reason for not preparing your meals is a lack of time or practice. The second is easily solved - cook more often! There is no better day than today for getting started: millions of recipes are at your fingertips - one search away.
A lack of time can be a barrier, and this is why you need to make cooking convenient. Cook a few times a week but make large portions to cover several meals. Or cook regularly, but make simple, healthy meals. Save the more elaborate dishes for the weekend.
If it helps, treat yourself to new kitchen tools: anything that makes cooking more practical for you.
2. Make cooking enjoyable. Cooking does not have to feel like a chore...
- have music playing in the background or listen to a podcast.
- try some new recipes.
Do the above, and you will quickly make cooking a habit. It is a habit that pays for itself - the time you invest will earn you dividends in the form of better health. Even if you are not always preparing perfectly healthy meals, chances are you will be doing better than throwing pre-made food in the oven or microwave.
Take pride in preparing and cooking your meals. Invest more in this essential life skill. As long as you are not engaging in bad habits too often - like snacking or being completely sedentary, the difference it makes will be positive. It will help you prevent common health problems and improve your health and in turn, live a healthier life.
Although managing your disease can be very challenging, Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. You can make simple changes to your daily routine and lower both your weight and your blood sugar levels. Hang in there, the longer you do it, the easier it gets.

Why Home Workouts Can Deliver Better Results
The gymnasium has never been more popular, with men and women of all ages, not to mention all shapes and sizes, pumping iron or pounding the treadmill with reckless abandon. Discount memberships and contract-free options place the local gym within most of our price ranges - but would we not be better off exercising at home? Let us take a look and compare the two.
Workouts take many forms, and not everybody who exercises does so with the same objective in mind. Some want to build muscle mass, others are more concerned about losing weight. The emphasis on cardiovascular exercise which many modern gyms place gives us a clue as to the priorities of their clientele. Some gym users can be there for hours and never touch a dumbbell.
For others working out can be about increasing suppleness, recovering from an injury, de-stressing, or increasing metabolism. There are those too who only seem to go along for a chat.
Paradoxically the popularity of gym membership calls into question its effectiveness in comparison to working out at home, and there are a whole host of reasons why you may be better off just leaving the car in the garage and donning some basic but comfortable workout clothes which you don't need to be embarrassed by because nobody is ever going to see you in them.
For starters there is the journey. De-stressing can be a lot harder when you've just had the dubious pleasure of sitting in the traffic on your way in to train. When you get there you may feel awkward because you don't know anybody, or else you may know too many people - or the wrong people - and finish up spending much of your valuable workout time talking.
Then of course it costs money, and if it's crowded you may not be able to use the equipment you want when you want. Assuming, that is, the equipment is of the type you need to realize your workout objectives, as gyms which issue memberships have a tendency towards training equipment that is aesthetically pleasing rather than providing optimum functionality.
Finally there is the obligatory show-off, whose prowess can serve to demoralize, thereby diminishing your own gym experience and possibly your workout too as you strive desperately either to emulate or to impress.
With imagination and a little research most of that which can be achieved at the gym can equally be performed at home. Even many of the movements involving heavy weights which are designed for muscular growth can be replicated with bodyweight exercises such as squats, lunges, planks and pull-ups.
The home workout allows you to train in the comfort and convenience of your own environment, unstressed, undisturbed and un-distracted, whilst providing almost all of the options that are available from the local gym. With a bit of thought and a bit of research all your objectives can be achieved outside of the gymnasium, whether you are training for muscle mass, weight loss or recovery.

Exercises and Workouts - What Is Your Motivation to Exercise?
The hardest part of exercising is not doing the activity; more often than not, it is getting started. Physics dictates it takes more energy to put an object that is at rest into motion than it is to continue the action once it has begun. It is only natural this applies to exercise as well.
Is it because of motivation (or lack of motivation) exercise is so difficult to get stuck into? To be more specific we are talking about the long-term. Anybody can go for a walk or a run, or a one-off workout without much difficulty. Advising people to exercise because it will burn fat and make them feel better, can often be enough incentive to get them moving. But getting them to repeat this, and exercise at least three times a week, every week - now that is a task easier said than done.
Is it challenging, however, to make time to exercise at least three times a week? Unless you are part of a minority of individuals, you most certainly have the time and the ability to do this. But you may still struggle, despite this being your intent and something you are fully capable of doing.
Could your struggle be due to lack of motivation? You may think you do not have any motivation, or what you do have is insufficient. Perhaps: but it could also be for other reasons. Motivation is a big one, though.
If your drive to exercise is at a peak, you are going to make fewer excuses. When you do make excuses, however, you will be quick to overcome them. You will go out of your way to workout - even unreasonably so at times. But at least you will be exercising. You can always dial it back a notch if it begins to overwhelm you or take over other parts of your life.
In contrast, not exercising at all poses serious consequences. If you feel your motivation is lacking, you need to ask yourself why you want to exercise, to begin with. In reality, this is an unnecessary question. You ought to exercise for your well-being. It is a necessity. Maybe you don't realishttps://ezinearticles.com/?Exercises-and-Workouts---What-Is-Your-Motivation-to-Exercise?&id=9876226e it yet, or don't want the benefits of physical activity badly enough.
We cannot convince you to exercise. But maybe we can assure you it is wise not to wait until it is too late to realise you should. It needs to be a part of your life, albeit a small part. Again, three times a week is enough for most people. No need to get crazy.
Build some motivation for yourself by realising the necessity of exercise. You have more to lose than to gain by being inactive.
Although managing Type 2 diabetes can be very challenging, it is not a condition you must just live with. Make simple changes to your daily routine - include exercise to help lower both your blood sugar levels and your weight.

Guide to Cardio Exercises - The Outdoor Workout
The human body is a complex system that is composed of organs, limbs, muscles, blood, hormones and nails among others. In order for the body to function, you need to eat and breathe. Oxygen helps to oxygenate the blood while food nourishes the muscles and body cells allowing the body to grow and develop.
The heart and the lungs are vital organs as they are at the centre of the above activities that is pumping of oxygenated and de-oxygenated blood to and from the body as well as breathing in and out of clean and used air.
Today, thanks to smart devices like smartphones, laptops and tablets, people are spending way too much time with them. It's not a surprise to find people sleeping with these devices beside them so that they don't miss that post, tweet or WhatsApp message from a friend or loved one.
Leading a sedentary lifestyle has a negative impact on the body. To improve one's cardiovascular health, you need to engage in cardio exercises.
Swimming
For many people, a swimming pool is just a place where you can throw a party and invite a few friends. For others, it's a place to sleep on the deck chair and let the skin absorb the rays of the sun as you sip your favourite drink.
Swimming is a great workout as it engages different limbs and muscles when moving through the water. For example, when you breast stroke, you need to make movements with your arms, neck and legs. This exercise helps to make the heart to pump blood faster while the lungs take in clean air and expel used air.
Next time you have an opportunity of standing by a pool; don't look at it as a massive pond but as a gateway to better health.
Walking
The best thing about walking is that you can turn it into a fun activity. You don't have to walk in the park or around the neighbourhood when you need to exercise. The hills and woods in the countryside are perfect places to hike. When you walk, different joints like the knees, the elbows and shoulders get to move which improves lubrication.
For the muscles around the legs, thighs, arms and back, they will not only receive nourishment from oxygenated blood but they will receive the much needed exercise too. You will be able to exercise your legs and the whole body as well as experience nature at its best.
Running
When you run, you engage your heart and your lungs just like swimming and cycling do. The lungs will take in oxygen and dispel used air quickly. This is done to supply the heart with oxygenated blood as the body cells are burning energy at a high rate. Running is a cardio exercise for the outdoors and the best thing about it is that you can push your body to highest limits. For instance, you can start jogging one mile in a day and within no time; you will have the ability of participating in a marathon.
Cycling
When you cycle, you help to jump start metabolism allowing your body to burn calories which in turn powers the cells in the muscles. Cycling allows you to engage your legs, your back, your elbows, your arms and your wrists. Your heart and lungs will benefits from the oxygen as well as the energy produced which helps to power the organs.
Final Thoughts
What you need to remember is that even though cardio exercises help to improve your heart and lungs, you need to take a rest. You can work out from Monday to Friday but set Saturday and Sunday for resting.

The Benefits of Antioxidants - To Prevent Chronic Diseases And Support Anti Ageing
What are Antioxidants?
Antioxidants are natural substances found mainly in vegetables, fruits, nuts and spices that help prevent or reduce oxidation which occurs at the cellular levels. They do this by removing "free radicals", which, if left alone could oxidize cells - leading to inflammation and chronic diseases like diabetes, joint diseases, atherosclerosis, cancer, dementia and degenerative eye diseases. These harmful chemicals also accelerate the aging process.
What are Free Radicals?
Free radicals are atoms or molecules with an unpaired electron in an atom's outer shell. Being chemically unstable, they are highly reactive and able to cause damage to cells in the body. Some researchers believe that aging occurs because cells accumulate free radical damage over time.
The main contributing factors to excess free radicals in the body are eating the wrong food, stress, pollutants, smoking, over exposure to ultra violet light and harmful bacteria.
The intake of certain prescription drugs and chemotherapy are also linked to free radical formation in the body.
Foods high in free radicals include oil and fats (when heated to high temperature like in frying) overcooked meats and processed meats.
Eating too much sugary foods that cause the blood sugar to spike could also lead to an increase in this harmful chemical in the body
How Antioxidants Prevent Chronic Diseases and Ageing?
Antioxidants prevent ageing by neutralizing and removing free radicals in the body responsible for causing damage to body tissues. In doing so, they help prevent or slow down the impact of chronic diseases and also the ageing process.
Are all Antioxidants the same?
Though the chemical role of antioxidants in the body are quite similar, some antioxidants are known to provide added benefits to specific parts of the body. For examples: flavonoids protects the heart; beta carotene protects the eyes; lycopene benefits the prostrate gland; and, proanthocyanidine contribute to urinary tract health
It is also well established that some antioxidants are more powerful in their actions than others. For example food astaxanthin is reputed to be 500 times more powerful than Vitamin E.
Sources of Antioxidants
The food sources for antioxidants are as follows:
a) Vegetables - carrots, tomatoes, broccolli, spinach, kale, antichoke, sweet potatoes, beetroot and cilantro
b) Fruits - blue berries, grapes, cranberries, elderberries, black berries apples, water melon, wolfberry and citrus fruits
c) Nuts and Seeds - pecans, walnuts, peanuts, kidney beans and flaxseed
d) Beverages - red wine, green tea, cocoa
e) Spices - clove, turmeric, cinnamon, oregano, basil and ginger
The foods listed above are not exhaustive but indicate the more popular ones that are rich in antioxidants.
Supplements
Vitamins A, C and E are among the well known antioxidants while the trace elements selenium, zinc and copper are known for supporting the anti-oxidizing system in the body.
Other antioxidants that are popular for their heath benefits include:
a) Curcumin- protection against cancer, Alzheimer's, heart diseases and arthritis
b) CoQ10 - helps those with heart problems, Parkinson's Disease, hypertension and chronic fatigue syndrome.
c) Glutathione - helps the body produce enzymes, detoxification, digestion of fats and destruction of cancer cells.
d) Lutein and Zeaxanthin - prevents cataracts and macula degeneration
e) Quecetin- supports the heart, fights chronic fatigue syndrome and arthritis
f) Astaxanthin- reduces the chronic effect of diseases including cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and high blood pressure
Are Supplements Necessary?
Getting your antioxidants from natural sources is better due to the complex mix of phytonutrients that you can get from fruits, vegetables, nuts and spices that you may not get from supplements. However, if getting these health giving nutrients from natural sources is a problem or if specific antioxidants are needed for managing certain health problems, supplements can still be of much help.
Conclusion
I hope this article has given you a good overview of antioxidants and the role they play in preventing annd healing chronic diseases.
Research findings of top universities in the US and elsewhere have provided a lot of science-based evidence of the role of antioxidants in preventing and healing chronic diseases and on anti aging.
